Swagger Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 Just noticed that the 2010 CL final would be the first final to be played on a Saturday, rather than the traditional Wednesday. Why the change?
_00_deathscar Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 (edited) Greater TV audience - which is crap. I like my Wednesday Champions League finals. Edited August 3, 2009 by _00_deathscar
stressederic Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 I'm actually quite pleased about this as I play 5 a side football on Wednesday evenings.
libero Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 I'm actually quite pleased about this as I play 5 a side football on Wednesday evenings. So you would have had to miss 1 out of 52, aw diddums. Purlease.
mick Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 Just noticed that the 2010 CL final would be the first final to be played on a Saturday, rather than the traditional Wednesday. Why the change? So they can market it as something stupid like "Super CL Final Saturday"........... It was announced a couple of months ago though
stressederic Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 So you would have had to miss 1 out of 52, aw diddums. Purlease. I'm not saying they consulted me on the decision, more that I don't particularly mind the outcome.
Billy Dane Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 Football should be played on a saturday, preferably at 3pm.
psl Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 Football should be played on a saturday, preferably at 3pm. Not European football.
Cam Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 Odd decision. Aren't viewing figures higher during the week because there's fewer people going out?
Billy Dane Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 (edited) "The Champions League final will be moved from its traditional Wednesday night slot and instead be held on a Saturday night, UEFA president Michel Platini announced on Friday. The move was confirmed following a meeting of UEFA's executive committee in Lucerne and will come into effect from the 2009-10 season. "I did not see many children or families in Athens because Wednesday is a school night," Platini told reporters referring to last season's final in which AC Milan beat Liverpool. "Moving it to Saturday should make it more of a family occasion." The European Cup final has traditionally been played in midweek since the competition began in 1955-56." Linky thing Quite how Platini expects families to be able to afford tickets for their kids I don't know. That's without touching on the amount of tickets available to the finalists in the first place. Edited August 3, 2009 by le2red
growler Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 he's got a point, I remember getting together on a wednesday evening to watch the game, but don't anymore because we have kids who go to school. If it was on Saturday, we'd get together again, and make a night of it. Also, don't under-estimate the global appeal too. Saturday morning, afternoon, Sunday morning, depending where you are in the world, is more popular than Wednesday morning, afternoon or Thursday morning.
SkippyjonJones Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 I like it. It'll be on mid afternoon my time - perfect for a few pre match beers and loads of time to celebrate number 6 afterwards!!!
Swagger Posted August 5, 2009 Author Posted August 5, 2009 Platini is an utter utter c*** What he said.
Falconhoof Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 I hate Gaillard more, he's a snide f***** him.
Kahnee Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 I'm not saying they consulted me on the decision, more that I don't particularly mind the outcome. Did they not? Don't they know who you are?
stressederic Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 Did they not? Don't they know who you are? Parochial f*****s every last one of them
Red Kent Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 Prefer Saturday to Wednesday. If you go, no need to book hols from work.If you dont, get pissed and lay in. Win win for me.
Stevie H Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 the brassneck on platini is f***ing amazing. "I did not see many children or families in Athens because Wednesday is a school night," Platini told reporters referring to last season's final in which AC Milan beat Liverpool. "Moving it to Saturday should make it more of a family occasion." that would be because a giant chunk of the tickets go to corporate sponsors, national FA suits and other members of the 'uefa football family', you hypocritical c*nt.
Billy Dane Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 (edited) He probably means the sponsors and uefa officials were moaning they couldn't take their kids with them. Edited August 6, 2009 by le2red

Maybe one of the reasons it's not teeming with toddlers is because it's in another f*ckin country and costs anything up to a grand to feckin get to. Maybe in his world everyone is complaining they cant take their kids for evenings out in Moscow and Istanbul at the drop of a hat cos there's school in the morning, but in my experience those who can afford it and get the tickets say 'feck school, son, we're going to the European Cup Final'.

Write him a letter about these issues, see what response you get. I dare you.
