Jezzman Posted August 1, 2009 Posted August 1, 2009 I have only ever seen him play some mins here and there. Think he played a bit against PSV and he has played a bit this pre-season. But just how good is this lad? Anyone here who've watched him more frequently?
fyds Posted August 1, 2009 Posted August 1, 2009 Watched him a fair bit on LFC TV. He's good, and could be very good - certainly the most 'complete' of our young CB pretenders, and can play at RB if required. Still needs work to make the final step up (if we were a middling team, I probably wouldn't be saying this - but we're not).
Alonso Posted August 1, 2009 Posted August 1, 2009 I've been impressed with him in this pre season. Looks to have a bit of pace about him and quite commanding. Confident on the ball too happy to look forward rather than play the square pass to his CB partner or FBs.
Maldini Posted August 1, 2009 Posted August 1, 2009 Potential first team regular. I've yet to spot a major flaw in his game. Probably needs to fill out a bit though.
Jezzman Posted August 1, 2009 Author Posted August 1, 2009 Sounds promising and he is a big, big lad as well. Is he any good at scoring goals with his head?
_00_deathscar Posted August 1, 2009 Posted August 1, 2009 Looks like the offspring of a thin Frankenstein and Jake Gylenhaal.
Stefano Posted August 1, 2009 Posted August 1, 2009 (edited) He's already been heralded as the next saviour on RAWK, which is a lot of responsibility to live up to at his age. Can't say I've been massively impressed by him. He looks like a steady player. Edited August 1, 2009 by Stefano
Falconhoof Posted August 1, 2009 Posted August 1, 2009 He's untested at the highest level. I wouldn't be confident of making predictions about young defenders. The standard they have to reach is very high.
Clay Davis Posted August 1, 2009 Posted August 1, 2009 (edited) Looked very good every time i've seen him. Best defensive prospect we have IMO.Btw, on the topic of English youngsters, that Jack Wilshere at Arsenal looks like he's going to be absolutely outstanding Edited August 1, 2009 by calamitymaud

Maldini Posted August 1, 2009 Posted August 1, 2009 Wilshere is very very special. I don't think I've seen a kid that age with such a developed footballing brain. He's only small, but he's stocky enough. I think he could be England's #10 for a decade. He'll probably end up getting played out wide because of Rooney though.
Stefano Posted August 1, 2009 Posted August 1, 2009 As he's left footed I can seem him being fast tracked to the England squad to give them the balance they've craved for years. With Walcott on the right there should be a nice blend of pace and control.

He'll be on the left side of midfield for England. Its not just his footballing brain though, his pace and quickness of dribbling is the best I've seen since, well, Messi. EDIT: Just seen above, he is a leftie! Edited August 1, 2009 by calamitymaud

EDIT: Just seen above, he is a leftie! There is a danger in playing any kid too early, too much - over-stressing the body, picking up niggling injuries that build into a bigger one/set and of course, burn out, pressure...time will tell but I'm always loathe to get excited about the next big thing too soon. Back to our boys, Pacheco could be a seriously special player - how he's eased in and looked after will make a massive difference. Edited August 2, 2009 by fyds

growler Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 how does he compare with that Evans kid from the toilet?
Maldini Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 quicker and better in the air but not as good a passer. He could do with a season as first choice in the Championship which is what Evans got at the same age.
richwilks Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 Kelly either needs to be playing a regularly at low end Prem or high end Championship or he needs to be a regular in our squad covering the full back positions. I wouldn't mind seeing him as cover for Johnson. Rather him than Degen who looked abysmal defensively yesterday.

I'll help you expand that bit: defensively, offensively, running, walking, heading, kicking, pointing, breathing...
richwilks Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 I'll help you expand that bit: defensively, offensively, running, walking, heading, kicking, pointing, breathing... At one point he got the ball down and pissed past their full back with good pace. He did it one occasion, he should have been doing it more. That said his delivery was s***. Defensively he was atrocious.
fyds Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 Was looking at a few of the games on the reserves 'Liverpool XI' route on the e-season - Nikola Saric looks like a big prospect - already physically imposing, confident and very skillful and sharp. The new lad from PSG, Chris Mavinnga looks a decent bet too.
schmuckdonald Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 Apparently Huddersfield put a bid in for Kelly but we've rejected it. In other youth news, Eccleston has signed a new 3-year deal.

Yeah, the snippets i've seen of him shows him to have a bit about him. Always good to see. There seems to be a few youngsters who have the potential to have potential.
