I would be surprised if NZ get anything from Iraq, and SA might just edge Iraq because of the home advantage, but they have been awful lately

 

It wouldn't be a massive shock to Iraq qualify to the second round, Bora Milutinović has always got his teams to over achieve

Just because Iraq has been in wars does not mean that they have a bad team. In addition, Asian football receive little coverage compared to African football, hence why British fans have little knowledge of the quality and depth of Asian football.

 

Despite the number of African players playing in Europe and despite the fact that African teams tend to do better on the world stages, when paired together, statically, Asian teams have always had the measure of African teams on both national and club levels.

 

Iraq surprised many in 2004 Olympic games getting to the semi final and only losing narrowly to a a very strong Italian team in the semi final.

 

Similarly, when the won the Asian cup, the surprised many by beating a star studded Australian team, a very strong south Korean team and playing the best attacking football in the competition and it was definitely not as fluky as the Danish win of Euro92.

 

I am going for an Iraq win against SA by 2-1.

Who are Iraq's good players tp keep an eye out for?

 

Nashat Akram who nearly joined City last season and has now joined FC Twente is probably the best player, but he was average today (and his set pieces were very poor), Youni Mahmood had a very good asian cup in 2007 but he is a bit of a hit and miss, and I like Hawar who plays for Famugsta in Cyprus

 

they should beat NZ, will be disappointed if we don't beat then (considering we have a good record against their much superior neighbours Australia)

 

 

That miss at the end by SA was hilarious

Heard Iraq's centre forwards got a ' scud missile' of a shot.

 

There was some c*** in the crowd with a sign that said something like "Please Iraq no fighting, this is soccer"
