psl Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 (edited) http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/drilldown/N...090528-1758.htm Pay rise by the looks of things. Fernando Torres has agreed a new, improved contract with Liverpool, reflecting his standing as one of the world's top strikers. The 25-year old, who hit his 50th goal for the Reds in last Sunday's win against Spurs, was already tied to Anfield for the next four seasons after signing a six-year deal in 2007. The new contract includes an option for a further year's extension to 2014. Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez said: "Fernando is one of the best strikers in the game today and, at his age, can only get better. "Every major side would want him in their team, but he has shown how much he wants to achieve success at Liverpool by committing his future to the club. He's a special talent, but still has the hunger to improve his game." Torres joins Dirk Kuyt, Daniel Agger, Steven Gerrard and Benitez in agreeing new deals at Anfield over the past two months. Benitez added: "We've made huge progress this season and now we need to take the next step. We are building something special here and securing such important players on long-term deals means we can move forward with confidence. "This sends out a very positive message to everyone connected with the club." Edited May 28, 2009 by psl
fred milne Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 Great news. I'd like to think we are talking to Alonso about a new improved deal too.
Zoob Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 Having the best striker in the world is nice. What ever extra money he's now on is well deserved, but he's clearly far more motivated by success than money anyway.
John Nada Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 Could you imagine him in that Barca team? Better yet, we don't have to imagine him in our team!
Gomez Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 Why not extend it? Or does the option implicitly do that?
ali Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 (edited) Fernando Torres got married yesterdayThe couple will have their first child within two months. As.com | 28/05/2009 According to El Pais, Fernando Torres, the Liverpool player, he married his girlfriend Olalla yesterday in El Escorial. The ceremony began at two in the afternoon and attended by only two witnesses. The bride chose a red dress, nothing usual at weddings. The player does not like the media to report on their private life, which is why we decided to hold a quiet ceremony. The couple will have their first child within two months. carrafan Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 Thats it then. There is now no chance of me sleeping with him. Seriously though, thats fantastic for the lad.
Benzo-13 Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 Totally deserves this new deal, great to see him play for us. Well done on his marriage too.
Knox_Harrington Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 Well done on his marriage too. It's not hard - have you seen him?
stressederic Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 The person who has benefited the most out of all of this is clearly Mrs Torres. Lucky bitch.
Chili Palmer Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 Her wedding dress proved she was a red, Olalla, Olalla...

GWistooshort Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 Could you imagine him in that Barca team? Yes he would get frustrated because Xavi & Ineista would hold on to the ball for too long That's what happens for Spain anyway
allawee Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 Her wedding dress proved she was a red, Olalla, Olalla...
allawee Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 how can this week get better 1. United get humiliated in Rome2. Best striker in the world extends his contract3. ? ( I hope it is either the red nose quitting his job, or the obnoxious brat off to Real)
Rimbeux Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 Why not extend it? Or does the option implicitly do that? The pay rise is honouring a promise about proving himself and earning x amount iirc
Dan Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 Love the fact that he shuns the limelight and all the b*llocks magazines, and that he's married a normal bird.
cymrococh Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 a normal bird with a great name. I can't get it out of my head. Olalla? Olalla! Hey Olalla! How Olalla? fyds Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 Olalla is a cool name alright. Nando and Olalla - there's a new animated kids TV show in a throwback, innocent stylee right there... However, the British media being how it is thesedays, no doubt we'll get 'Wazza n' Twazza'
