A win today and we almost guarantee a 2nd placed finish and it'd be stupid to risk all the difference in prize money between 2nd a 3rd place just to give a kid, a run out. Rafa's practical.

It's the way the Champions League money is paid out. It works something like:

 

England's 1st place gets 40% of all TV money of every round they play in, 2nd gets 30%, 3rd 15% and 4th 15%. Then when others get knocked out the money gets redistributed accordingly.
