richwilks Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 Anyone watching? Cracking start, 3-0 up, hit the post twice. 30 mins gone. Really good goal by N'gog, he also hit the post.
Andy @ Allerton Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 Very good game so far - as was said 3-0 and we did hit the post twice. We look hungry and keen - pity we left it a bit late - but we've had injuries and have tried different players all over. Been a good game so far. DEGEN NOT INJURED!!! HURRAH!!!
Logic Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 Great first touch by NGog for the goal and great determination to finish off the move.
Farmer's Tan Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 any links for the game?better than watching manu and a*** on the telly.
Logic Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 Great goal from Pacheco. Straight from a free kick.
dorgie Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 (edited) 4-1 now. Poor goal defensively. 5-1...neat finish by Pacheco in a 1 on 1 with the keeper. Edited April 29, 2009 by dorgie
carrafan Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 (edited) Brings into perspective how big the gap is, between reserve and first team football. Ngog is a French U 21 regular and has always done well when played for the reserves and he cant get a game for the first team. Similar story for El Zhar. Be nice if we can see a bit of Pacheco before the season ends though. Edited April 29, 2009 by carrafan
carrafan Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 who are the scorers ? San Jose, Ngog, Plessis and Pacheco (2). We've also hit the post twice and Ngog had an off side goal disallowed.
carrafan Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 (edited) No need to buy Barry. We should play Bruna just for the set pieces. BTW, those who watch the reserves regularly... does Weijl have a shot at making it to the first team in a few years time? Edited April 29, 2009 by carrafan
Hassony Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 BTW, those who watch the reserves regularly... does Weijl have a shot at making it to the first team in a few years time? he is a bit like reiera, good touch and a decent crosser, but doesn't have great pace
fyds Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 No need to buy Barry. We should play Bruna just for the set pieces. BTW, those who watch the reserves regularly... does Weijl have a shot at making it to the first team in a few years time?Seen a fair bit of him - very skillful, decent but not break-neck pace, good vision, certainly knows how to get a telling cross in - I would think he has an above average chance, but it really is too early to say and he still has work to do on some aspects.
aka Dus Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 Even years ago, I always assumed that the function of the reserve team was to play football in the style of the first team and not necessarily to win the reserve league. I am assuming that still holds?
Magic8Ball Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 Even years ago, I always assumed that the function of the reserve team was to play football in the style of the first team and not necessarily to win the reserve league. I am assuming that still holds? Thanks for the scorers Carra' I have always maintained that the club should teach 5 systems all the way from youth to reserve level 442, 4231/433 and some attacking formation 343/352. All the players should be coached in what's needed for each position as often as possible. It's my understanding that at Ajax they play 433 all the way from youth level to first team level.
Magic8Ball Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 which explains Babel....not sure what you mean. but 433 is less tactical and more attacking than 4231
Falconhoof Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 Am I really reading criticism of Ajax about developing youth players?
robfar1 Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 I haven't seen the reserves this year so for those that have, how would you rate Pacheco's chances of making it into the first team next year? Do you think he looks like a week in week out Premier League player?
fyds Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 Not yet, but I'm sure he'll start to feature at some point - he (like N'gog) is getting better all the time.

I am assuming that still holds?I think that was the case years ago, and is becoming the case again now - but for years what Heighway was doing at the academy (where our 'style' has to start) was making this difficult.
richwilks Posted April 30, 2009 Author Posted April 30, 2009 I haven't seen the reserves this year so for those that have, how would you rate Pacheco's chances of making it into the first team next year? Do you think he looks like a week in week out Premier League player? He's not a week in week out player yet. I think he'll figure more on the bench next season though. He's got massive potential IMO. Plessis had a good game yesterday as well, he's looked poor this season.
Kahnee Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 Brings into perspective how big the gap is, between reserve and first team football. Ngog is a French U 21 regular and has always done well when played for the reserves and he cant get a game for the first team. He's a striker. We only with one striker. There-in lies the problem. He's done well coming off the bench though, and I think once he's settled in more he'll get a few more games in next season. You have to remember he wasn't brought in to make an immediate impact, he's one for the future. Similar story for El Zhar. He's had a few league?CL appearances off the bench this season. Can't see the problem there
