Dominus Maximus Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 We may not be champions, but we sure as hell put up a good fight. We've closed the gap and proved real contenders. Next season will be awesome. Stay happy lads. We are Liverpool, and we never give up.
Maldini Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 I can't agree, we are the best team in the league this season and we've thrown away the league by dropping points we really shouldn't have. We should be 10 points clear now.
floyd the barber Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 I can't agree, we are the best team in the league this season and we've thrown away the league by dropping points we really shouldn't have. We should be 10 points clear now. or you could say...the best team in the league wouldnt throw it away by droping silly points.. Regardless this season has seen massive strides towards the top.....big ,big summer for the club.. and lets not put this to bed yet......least we forget, we are top of the league...mancs still have to win their games, i will always believe until its mathmatically impossible.
Logic Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 I keep thinking... They need to mess up two more game than we 'til the end of the season. Little has changed there. If the Mancs lose the game tomorrow we are still on track. This makes it a lot more difficult but the situation is still the same. We need them to make two more mistakes than us until the end of the season. We just made it so that one of those mistakes need to be a loss. That's all. Maybe I'm just way too optimistic? And the lads did us proud today. Fought until the end. Bloody (rare) individual mistakes cost us though.
Hieronymus Bosch Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 If they lose tomorrow, we can win it if they don't win all their remaining games. It's unlikely, but we're still in the hunt.
Hassony Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 If they lose tomorrow, we can win it if they don't win all their remaining games. It's unlikely, but we're still in the hunt. Its just that kind of season isn't it was always going to be a massive task to win the last 11 games, now we got a draw lets win the last 5

Archangel Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 Its breathless stuff, if we play like this next year we will blow away the mid and lower table sides There are still twists in this campaign as well
Falconhoof Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 I'm not proud of that defending. A few of them need to have a f***ing good look at themselves.
carrafan Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 Could have done with a bit more luck and even more jammy goals this season. Or Torres fit. Or Gerrard fit. Haha its great how we're still up there somehow with all the problems that we've had. Am i proud? Absolutely. Am i disgusted that we're not going to win the league this year? Even more.
realtarragona Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 If they lose tomorrow, we can win it if they don't win all their remaining games. It's unlikely, but we're still in the hunt. They could still afford to draw another one and win it.
Rimbeux Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 I'm proud we didn't go down losing. Such a shame defensive panics, not solidity has done us. We are more than good enough to take any team apart, we just have to learn to do it without panic defending.
George Costanza Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 We f***ed up massively tonight just like we did when we had a decent cushion. We've thrown away an exceptional chance of winning the league. I cannot see the scum dropping 6 points now, 4 was a big ask. Only ourselves to blame. Its very encouraging though from a progression viewpoint even if its yet another season without a trophy.
gkmacca Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 If they lose tomorrow, we can win it if they don't win all their remaining games. It's unlikely, but we're still in the hunt. Or if they win tomorrow but lose another match, or draw two and...it all sort of depends on what we can't predict. We won't know until the end. But this team deserves our support and belief until it's impossible.
D.Boon Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 Insane game. We look a completely different team to the compact teams Benitez normally sends out. Im chuffed to bits with our belief and progression but if we dont do it ill be gutted at what could have been if we hadnt had those terrible draws earlier in the season. Arsenal looked dangerous all night tonight i thought and it always looked a difficult task to get all 3 points. But by bollicking b******s we nearly damn well did it tonight.
Hassony Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 12 goals in the last 3 games without Gerrard in the team who says that we can't score without him
Kindred Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 Where we were last year Team P GD PTS1 Man Utd 38 58 872 Chelsea 38 39 853 Arsenal 38 43 834 Liverpool 38 39 76 Where we are now Team P GD PTS1 Liverpool 33 38 712 Man Utd 31 33 713 Chelsea 32 35 674 Arsenal 33 26 62 With Man Utd still to play Arsenal, Boro away, Manc derby & Spurs. In a hypothetical world, if offered that at the start of the season, I think I would have taken it. If Man U had only 1 game in hand I definately would. I think we've progressed a lot this season, particularly in our play and thats without Torres & Gerrard for large parts of the season. All I wanted at the start of the season was a genuine title challenge. Didn't care so much about the cups. A good run in the CL is good for confidence, prestige & finances, but it was the league that was my priority. Of course, whats made it harder to take is the results against the top 4 being good and throwing away points against some of the teams we should be taking all 3 from. Just think its worth remembering where we were at the start of this season. Also the Keane fiasco. If a £20m player had come in and clicked it might just have made a difference. We need to put that right this summer & then just maybe next year.....(not that I've given up on this season just yet!)
psl Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 Can't feel proud tonight. I greatly admire our fighting qualities but ludicrous defensive errors have cost us tonight against an Arsenal side missing many of their best players. I was proud last week, tonight I'm just gutted.
Falconhoof Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 Insane game. We look a completely different team to the compact teams Benitez normally sends out. We've played simmilarly, though not as bad, in defense against Arsenal in the recent past. I can't think of another team that scares our defence as much. Its very rapid, accurate passing between their midfield and forwards. They get the ball away before our man closing down has got his man under pressure. With that, they've got our players out of position and we have no answer to it.Its quite weird to watch how often it happens against them. I can only hope they scare Man U as much in the semi finals.

Arsenal looked dangerous all night tonight i thought and it always looked a difficult task to get all 3 points. But by bollicking b******s we nearly damn well did it tonight. If we certainly lost the title now, it is not because of tonight's game alone, too many draws at home overall has cost us, I think we have the best away record in the League if I'm not mistaken. However the one place where the Mancs have stolen a march on us is the home record they have won a huge amount of games. Liverpool P17 W10 D7 L0 Pts 37Mancs P15 W15 D1 L1 Pts 46 That's the killer stat.
Bo Benn Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 Should we play with the kind of attitude we've had over the last few game for a full year we will always hit bumps like this one because we simply shift our entire setup so much higher on the pitch, especially when our opposition has some great individuals like Arsenal do. However I think we would still win the bloody league because it brings the absolute best in each of our players. Kuyt, Torres, Gerrard and Benayoun in particular absolutely love a high-paced game like this. And let's make one thing clear; looking over the whole game Arsenal were very, very lucky to get away with a point today. Sad like something like this should happen at this point of the season but it is the games where we simply got stuck that really cost us the league. Playing Arsenal or any of the other two top clubs is always going to be a tightrope walk.

MFletcher Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 How many games have Gerrard and Torres started together in the league?
Swipe Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 Arsenal were average. Sounds ridiculous after a 4-4 draw but they really were battered. Arshavin didn't have many more touches than he had goals. Dumfounded that we dropped points tonight.
