Dan Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 Stepped up massively this season. Proved a lot of people wrong and vindicated the manager's faith in him. His all round game has come has come on leaps and bounds. I love it how he p*sses all over Ashley Cole every time he plays him. One of the first names on the team sheet for me these days. Well done lad. Top pro and top fella by the sounds of things.

kop205 Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 I'd agree. I've doubted his quality at times, mainly early last season when he looked way out of his depth up front, but he has re-invented himself superbly, almost Ray Kennedy-esque. His overall work-rate, combined with the fact that he must be in double figures now for the season, makes him a very valuable member of the side. I can think of many more talenetd players in world football, but not many who would actually bring what he does to the side.
smithdown Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 He looked like a ten year old loon in his suit yesterday though.
Tones Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 He has been fantastic again this season and continues to be one of my favourites. Youre not guaranteed a good game from Dirk, or any other player really, but youre guaranteed 100% effort and thats all you can ask. Good goal return this year for a RM, anyone know how many he has?
TheLa Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 Great player. Great attitude. Still under appreciated by certain sections of our support, but I'm made up he got a contract extension. We need players like him.
Leo No.8 Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 (edited) He's a hugely important part of our team. Dirk has had a fantastic season and for me is now fully established as one of those players you'd put on the teamsheet every single time on the right side. Sounds like he's doing well for the Dutch side as well, think he's got three goals in their last two games. People underestimate his ability even when praising him though; Dirk is about a hell of a lot more than work rate. His touch, technique, reading of the game and link play with those around him are absolutely outstanding. Plus his ability to score goals playing from a right sided position is invaluable, mostly in big games as well. Dirk is a great example of the modern wide man / forward hybrid. His first touch more often than not takes him away from defenders into space.
Swipe Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 (edited) Sir Dirkly has had a brilliant season. His touch may desert him sometimes, but you'll always get astonishing workrate and commitment from him. His sheer drive and muscle makes him one of the most challenging wide players in the league - as has been said he seems to bully the likes of Ashley Cole every time they meet. He also contributes his fair share of goals and assists. We could do with a few more options in wide positions need season, with more skillful players coming in, but Dirk is a massive member of the squad and quite rightly is one of the first names on the sheet for the really important games. If Giggs is one of the players of the year, Dirk should be way up there too Edited April 16, 2009 by Swipe
honourablegeorge Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 If he only had a yard extra of pace, he'd be an absolute star.
Chili Palmer Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 love him, love him, I'm thinking about being him for halloween...

Swipe Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 Kuyt Goals 3 in CL8 in PL Fantastic return for a wide player who still tracks back and defends.
yellow jumper Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 watched wednesday's game back. loved his rallying call after he scored the fourth. gobbed all over himself. he's one of the players at the heart of that never-say-never attitude we seem to have this season more than ever.
Snookie Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 Actual text message sent from my phone when he scored on Tuesday. "I f***IN' LOVE DIRK KUYT. I'D ACTUALLY DO HIM" I said something pretty similar. I think I offered to serve and receive. You might have to put a bag over his head but still.... He's been great this season. He's everything you'd want from a Liverpool player.
JRC Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 I hope that the myth that he is only about work-rate can be put to bed now. His touch is more often than not excellent - and when it isn't, it's often because he is always prepared to receive the ball, even when under pressure -, his passing is good and his reading of the game and selfless commitment to his tactical responsibilities are a manager's dream. His finishing is perhaps not as clinical as we might wish, but he is, imho, a surefire 'best 11' name now. Top player.
Andy @ Allerton Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 Excellent player. Usually dismissed as rubbish by knobheads.
matty Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 It's only a couple of years since he was being called all names under the sun on this very forum! Where is Sutty, btw?

stressederic Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 Kuyt Goals 3 in CL8 in PL to add - PFA player of the year nominee Ryan Giggs: 1 in CL1 in PL Kuyt has one less league goal than Wayne Rooney.
CaptainXabi Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 I still can't get over how great that run for his goal was. There could have been 50 Chelsea players there and he would have still scored.
Zoob Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 He must be a dream of a player to manage. does everything the boss tells him to do. Never complained about not playing up front, works his socks off, and scores crucial goals in big games. Absolutely love Dirk. In fact, the only time he doesn't look particularly good is in games against really weak teams who sit back and defend.
Hassony Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 It's only a couple of years since he was being called all names under the sun on this very forum! Where is Sutty, btw? I'd be very surprised if beautiful was one of the names
Alonso Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 How many assists does he have? Been very impressed with him this year and he fully deserves that new contract.
Leo No.8 Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 (edited) How many assists does he have? He has 11 goals and 6 assists this season apparently - an excellent record however I actually said in the early part of this season that if you watch all our goals back, its surprising just how often Dirk is involved in fashioning the opportunity at some stage of us getting into position to score even more often than the stats suggest. Whether its putting it in the net himself, setting a goal up directly or linking with someone like Gerrard earlier in the move he's often a key contributor. His backheel to Arbeloa in the run up to Torres' opener against Chelsea is a great example of his awareness and ability to bring others into play whether he's up front or out wide.
