Now that we're 17 points ahead of the nearest rival outside the top four (Aston Villa) (18 really when you consider goal difference) we've pretty much secured 'Champions' League involvement next term.

The only way this wouldn't be the case would be if we lost all our remaining fixtures and Villa won all theirs.

I don't think either of these things are possible.

So - that's nice anyway. And given some years we've scraped it - and some years we've missed out - that's quite an achievement for April.

I totally agree. Whatever happens over the rest of the season, we've definitely improved this year and I think the experience of being in there with a shout at the end this year can only benefit us next season.

I'm saving that as a get out if it goes pear shaped this season.

i'd still like us to get 2nd if we don't win the premiership.

Over the past number of seasons, the winner of the PL has NOT had to qualify for the champions league (ie 3rd and 4th). Finishing 2nd could give us a big boost next season!

Shows what you know.

3rd goes straight into the group stages starting this season. 4th faces a much harder qualifying round than previously.

f***ing hell, you're a picky t*** arent you? Im amazed you didn't pick up on his first sentence not starting with a capital.

Came across wrong. Didn't mean it that way. There...

Mind you, that's still no excuse for messing up 'of' and 'have' - not unless you're in close relation with Ant.

I'm delighted that it looks like we'll avoid having to play in the qualifiers. They always screw up the start of our season meaning we have at least 1 game in hand and have to play catch up almost from the start.

Finishing higher in the league also means a higher share of the TV money. Difference between 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th is pretty big if i recall.

3rd and 4th get 15% each if I recall correctly. Not sure how it'll be split next year with the extra qualifier and what knot...could just be the same I suppose.

2nd is 30% and 1st is 40%.

So finishing 2nd means twice the money as finishing 3rd. Finishing 1st means (almost) 3 times the money as finishing 3rd.

If that's correct there's a lot of money at stake for a higher place finish.

thought I heard there was a 50m payment to the winner of the league - imagine if we did the double, that would be 80m in prize money. Definitely would help the transfer budget

so, when the season ends, we wrap Torres and Gerrard in cotton wool and stick them in a stasis pod until the new season starts.

Throw Carra, Masch, Alonso, Reina and Kuyt in the same pod.

Funny how most of the media keeps saying that Liverpool has only 2 world class players compared to the Mancs and even Chelsea.

Personally, the league placement is not important, its the points between us and the winners. If we finish 4th, but 1 point behind the winners, that is still progress for me.
