richwilks Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11669_5121318,00.html Skysports.com understands Liverpool have opened talks with Stephen Darby over a new deal at Anfield. Darby is highly-rated within the corridors of Anfield and the club are ready to reward him with a new long-term contract, with his current deal having just over a year to run. The full-back has progressed through the Liverpool ranks and was a member of the 2006 and 2007 FA Youth Cup-winning sides. Darby made the breakthrough into the first team this season and he has so far made two substitute appearances in the Carling Cup and UEFA Champions League. Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is a big admirer of the 20-year-old and is hoping to thrash out a deal with the defender in the near future. I can't see the point of extending a 20 year old's contract unless he is going to be considered first team next season. Either he is good enough to cover Arbeloa and play when Arbeloa doesn't, or he isn't good enough for Liverpool and should be moved on.

You ok to have this conversation by yourself?
jimmylibel Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 I reckon he'll sign a contract and then be sent out on loan next season.
lfc4eva99 Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 I reckon he'll sign a contract and then be sent out on loan next season. or be sold, just has one year on his deal right now, less chances of us getting decent money with that.
Andy @ Allerton Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 He's a cracking young player. Will be made up if he does sign (If he hasn't already)
Kahnee Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 He's a cracking young player. Will be made up if he does sign (If he hasn't already) What happens if he gets an England call-up?
growler Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 Interesting that he would sign when not given a sniff when Arbeloa injured. Surely that would be the time to blood him.
T@Z Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 Unfortunately he was injured as well. Seems to be a curse with our right backs
KD07 Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 Was Patridge similarly held in regard within the corridors of Anfield? Who sits within these corridors? If their word is of any weight, shouldnt they be sitting in proper offices like?
Cam Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 or be sold, just has one year on his deal right now, less chances of us getting decent money with that. That'll be it. I just don't see Rafa using him much unless 4 or 5 possible stop-gaps for rightback are injured.
Andy @ Allerton Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 What happens if he gets an England call-up? He goes. Unless he's injured. In which case he doesn't go.
Ben 23 Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 He'll never make it. Pointless in my opinion. Let him be free and try to make something of himself down the leagues.

I don't think he'll make it here, hope he does but think he is just a level below what we need. If he doesn't we may as well get as much money as we can for him and that means getting him on a longer contract.
