Sion Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 they're not gonna extend it when united were moaning about it in the first place, they'll lose all the brown envelopes.
stressederic Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 I can quite easily believe that he's gotten away with it.
Bailo Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 Without wanting to go down the route of lip reading, for Dowd to say he wasn't sworn at asks for a large stretch of the imagination.
dorgie Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 Surely everyone knows there are some certainties in Premier League life : Alex Ferguson can say what he likes, to whom he likes, the FA sit on it for 3 months, and eventually say he has no case to answer;Ronaldo is entitled to petulantly kick anyone he likes, as often as he likes, if he feels he's been hard done by (SWP isn't allowed the same leniency by the way);Wayne Rooney will never be banned by the FA for foul and abusive language or any form of dissent towards a referee or his officials;Paul Scholes can't tackle, thus is not permitted to get a yellow card for a foul;Patrice Evra got a 4 match ban and Alex Ferguson gave out to the FA about it, thus freeing up the rest of his teammates to do as they please for the rest of the season without fear of recrimination from the FA;Alex Ferguson will refuse to talk to the tv cameras after a defeat.
Redkop Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 FA Chief Executive Brian Barwick has given his full support to England's referees and called on players and managers to show proper respect. Barwick said: "Referees do a very difficult job professionally and objectively under often very difficult circumstances. They deserve respect from everyone in the game. "We should remember that they get the vast majority of decisions right. They inevitably make a few mistakes, but so too do players and managers. "The FA joined together with the Premier League, Football League, PFA, LMA and referees to stress the importance of proper respect towards match officials, and this message was reinforced this summer. "As part of the regular meeting between The FA, leagues and referees we will discuss this matter next week. "We are not looking to take the passion out the game. However, it is not acceptable for referees to be subject to abusive and confrontational behaviour. Player and managers have a responsbility towards the game to conduct themselves properly. It's about getting the balance right. "The long-term health of football at all levels relies on recruiting and retaining referees. Without a referee, there is no game." What happened, where did this 'respect' go?
richwilks Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 What staggers me is that you hear pundit after pundit say that if you take that out of Rooney's game then you lose what the player is all about. WHAT? So he should get away with it purely because otherwise he won't be as good a player? What a load of s****. For me there is little difference in what Rooney did to what Mascherano did. Mascherano did it for longer perhaps but there was a hell of a lot more agression from Rooney. He was more threatening whereas Mascherano was more persistent. The FA would do well to review similar cases when handing out punishments. The Ronaldo/SWP incidents are a PRIME example of the FA being ball-less t***s.
Andy @ Allerton Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 Rooney 'getting away with it' and his odious manager 'getting away with it' are as surprising as the sun rising in the morning. Ferguson runs the FA. Simple as that. IF a referee gives anything against his team, it's a long, long while before they referee one of their games again.

I hate that, some manc called in talksport on saturday to say that he was happy with Rooney's and Ronaldo's attitude on Saturday as showed that they were "winners", and then went on to say that Terry and Gerrard were the same!!! Messi, Torres, Gerrard, Kaka, Ronaldinho..etc are all great players who don't act like spoilt brats when they are losing
Jarg Armani Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 Gerrard is probably the best example of someone who has cut the aggression out and gone from strength to strength regardless. He's better than Rooney though.
Ramón Benítez Hernández Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 click for video Ronaldo should have been sent off for that tackle on Murphy. Rooney deserved a red. I'm not a professional lip reader but he clearly calls the ref a t wat.
DanielS Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 (edited) Rooney was clearly just trying to get on with the game quickly. Its so obvious I'm amazed nobody has mentioned it. Johnny Evans was 10 yards behind the ref and that is who Rooney was throwing the ball to. He was being a petulant child or acting aggressively at all. Its what passionate players do all the time. Honest. P.S Just want to make sure nobody thinks I'm linking this incident to last years alleged rape Evans was allegedly involved in. There is no link at all and it would be irresponsible to bring it up. So don't - allegedly or otherwise. Edited March 25, 2009 by DanielS
The walters step over Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 I can quite easily believe that he's gotten away with it. Same here, with two England games coming up the chances of him pulling out of the squad with a hamstring/calf/thigh strain would have increased enormously if he'd been given a ban. The irony to me is that by letting him get away with allsorts the F.A are making a rod for their own back. Rooneys perfomances for England don't warrant the special attention that he gets (after 2004 he went FOUR YEARS without either a goal or an assist in competitive games, his biggest contribution in that time was to turn a very winnable quarter final into a ten men backs to the wall job). The big hope I have is that if we can pile on the pressure his lack of discipline will start to grow in the run in - I can easily see a situation whereby he loses it during a game and costs United points.

DanielS Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 See, I've missed that completely. Nothing came of it then? It was after their Christmas party in 2007 and nothing came of it. The alleged incident never allegedly took place and no alleged woman was sexually assaulted by any alleged footballers from Man Utd.
ManxRed Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 POLICE: "So Madam, at what point did you realise that you'd been raped?" ALLEGED WOMAN: "About half an hour afterwards when I realised he was a Man Utd footballer. Allegedly" Allegedly
DJS Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 One other thing that nobody has mentioned - if Rooney is just getting the ball back quickly, for the fk to be taken, why doesnt he kick it? Surely a professional footballer (striker too) should be more adept at getting a football to it's intended target by kicking it, than throwing it? That's the instinctive way a player would normally return the ball to someone.
surf Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 click for video Ronaldo should have been sent off for that tackle on Murphy. Rooney deserved a red. I'm not a professional lip reader but he clearly calls the ref a t wat. MOTD didn't think the Scholes 'tackle' was an important incident in the game?
Minder78 Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 Beckham enters the argument with the old "its wot makes him great argument"......... “With Wayne Rooney you don’t get the exceptional talent and player you have without that side of his game,” Beckham said. “If you take that side out of his game, he becomes a different player, a different animal. You don’t want to take that out of him. So if he isnt acting the c*** he cant pass the ball 20 yards..........???
Billy Dane Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 How come Torres is regarded as the best striker in the world, but isn't also an ugly, foul mouthed ruffian as well? Just how good could he be, if he could bring Rooney's "aggression" into his game?

Not that Gerrard was anything like as bad as Rooney, but there's an example of a player who has tempered a certain youthful exuberance without his losing a single facet to his game. There's no reason that Rooney couldn't grow up a little and become a better player for it. As it is, he plays for the mancs, so I'm perfectly happy to see his petulance thrive and continue to get him sent off. I just wish it was a little more often.
Swipe Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 It's such a poor, cliched excuse. I'd like anyone suggesting it to name some players who've tempered their aggression and not been the same player afterwards. Shearer was aggressive, Torres is aggressive - Rooney is just spiteful and childish. And why should he stop behaving like that when he rarely gets punished for it!
D.Boon Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 When Graeme Le Saux was 16 he was an absolute monster, look what happened to him!
