Not sure it's possible to beat someone 5-0 without doing an awful lot of things very well!

Villa did well to keep up with us once we took the lead, but we blew them away.

Rafa's comments on the performance were excellent. Keeping everyone nice and steady for the run in, feet on the ground.

Gerrard too, looked confident and calm in his interview.

Can't wait till Fulham now.

Torres was poor. And he looked livid not to score.

I was impressed with the obvious desire to get on the scoresheet but when Owen used to do that it'd wind us all up.

I think we could have got a few more if we hadn't been busting to get Torres a goal after we went 5-0 up.

If he's gonna have an off day, its nice and handy that it happens when we tank a team without him!

I'm actually serious when I say I don't think we played that* well and Villa didn't deserve to lose 5-0.

*Compared to what the initial poster makes out.

That was one of the s***test games ive seen from Fernando, but he can be excused thats for sure.

Its funny though how you just get a feeling from the start of the game if he is up for it or not.

I said this somewhere else. even when Torres has an off day, he creates space for others as he always takes the attention of 2 defenders when the ball is anywhere near him.

Riera and Kuyt benefited from the space today and they will repay him on another day.

Torres was rubbish

He was really bad. If he'd been on form it would be 9 nil.

100%. His off day creates tons of room, defenders can't leave him alone. just by being on the pitch he creates space.

I dont think Torres was rubbish at all. He was surrounded by 2 and at times 3 players everytime he had the ball. That left the likes of Stevie G, Dirk and Reira completely free. The one time he had one defender on him he won a penalty.

The Villa players made it a personal mission before the game to stop Torres which they achieved but still ended up losing 5-0.

torres had a mare in the first half, his touch was off and he just wasn't at the races. 2nd half much better and as ever his mere presence puts the s***s up defenders and creates space for others.

2 of my mates went from not going to fulham before the game, to going to fulham after it.

I just hope torres and Gerrard comes back from the international break unscathed.

Villa were tactically inept, O'Neill is clueless.

They tried to play 4-2-4 with no holding midfielder against a rampant Liverpool and left huge gaps high up the pitch for us to exploit. They were so scared of Torres' pace they put Cuellar & Davies on him leaving acres of space for us "between the lines" and Reo-Coker as a right back was hilariously bad plus Young as a right footed left back was a fish out of water.

It's a shame we declared at 5, it could have been any score we liked after that if we hadn't been so keen to set up Torres when Kuyt in particular was completely unmarked in the box.

And what about the passes for the 2 penalties? Kuyt with a 40 yd crossfield ball over Reo-Coker for Riera to take in his stride; then Alonso's sublime through ball straight down the middle for Torres. Sweet.

We are so much more clinical at key points in the game at the moment, that's the main difference from earlier in the season and it's all about confidence

you tend to get that when coming back from injuries tho don't you? a few good games because of adreneline getting you through, a bit of a dip when the lack of match fitness catches up, then kick on again.
