Romario Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 He delivers time and time again. If he can play like Gary Mac till 36, 37 then he's gotta be up there with the great players and I'm not just talking about Liverpool greats. He might not have the suave swagger of someone like Zidane on the ball but he's gotta be just as effective in his own right. Considering the teams built around players like Zidane and the way Gerrard drives our team each season he's really one of a kind. Hat's off tonight mentioning Yossi and yet again scoring in Europe the second being a supurb finish indeed.
Tones Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 (edited) Hes a Liverpool legend. One of the greatest players in the clubs history. Maybe will get more of that sort of recogntion when he retires. I think its great that we are all able to see him play now. Edited March 10, 2009 by t1971
Barnesy_10 Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 incredible player. I do wonder whether he would be as good at any other club though. He lives and breathes Liverpool and that undoubtedly has a bearing on his performances. Neverthless, thank f*** he is ours!

allawee Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 On a serious note, I have not had the privilege to see Souness or other Liverpool greats, but he is definitely the best English player I have actually seen and that includes Barnes. When I compare him to international players who won the golden ball or European player of the year since the mid eighties, there are only 3 players that I think are better than him that I have witnessed play: MaradonaPlatiniZidane He is already a legend and it will be a crime if he finishes his playing career without a PL medal.
CarraLegend Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 He's astonishing, he's got everything, im not even nervous when he takes a penalty now. Rafa has done an immense job with him aswell, giving him even more freedom to express himself.
Zoob Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 Think most strikers would have struggled to score his second goal and hit the ball as sweetly as Gerrard did. Was a quite an amazing finish which he made look very easy. Despite the fact that Gerrard can tackle, and works his ass off, I still feel he should more regularly be compared to Zidane, Platini, and other great 'number 10' type players, rather than Keane, Viera, Souness type players.
Benzo-13 Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 Best player in the world. He's basically a real life Roy of the Rovers.

Both beautiful.
stressederic Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 It's wonderful that we get to watch his progress play out in front of us year on year. It's like watching the Collosseum being built brick by brick. And I totally agree that it's pointless comparing him with Souness, Keane, Viera etc. They're completely different players. That said watching Gerrard and Souness play on opposite teams would be pretty epic.
CarraLegend Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 I know he wont leave but him to Real rumours must be nailed on especially after this with them s***ty election things coming up, same with Rafa aswell. Though Torres should escape as luckily their supporters hate him!
Kvarme Ate My Food Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 im not even nervous when he takes a penalty now. huge deal this, isn't it? we used to s*** ourselves. now, it's like when Murphy took them.
CarraLegend Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 huge deal this, isn't it? we used to s*** ourselves. now, it's like when Murphy took them. I used to be like "Oo f***, he's only allowed to take em because of who he is" but he's s*** hot at them now, held his nerve in any situation aswell, shootouts, 1 to knock Arsenal out, Porto, twice taken against Marseille and even the one he missed against Marseille the year before he banged in the rebound anyway! What a guy!
DonRafa Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 Though Torres should escape as luckily their supporters hate him! Good! His Raul impersonation will only add to their bile

cymrococh Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 Good! His Raul impersonation will only add to their bileWhat's the story behind this?
Bao Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 That said watching Gerrard and Souness play on opposite teams would be pretty epic.Playing in the same team would be even epicer.
CaptainXabi Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 Unbelievable. It's just getting silly now. Being moved into a more advanced role is going to prolong his career as well. He'll be banging in screamers at 35 with no problem.
_00_deathscar Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 (edited) He's one of those players I'll drone about endlessly to my grandchildren about when I'm 80. My grandchildren will probably be sick of the stories of him, but he's that f***ing good. Edited March 11, 2009 by _00_deathscar

Malcolm X Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 I have said it before and I will say it again I think he is the greatest player that has ever played for us. His all round game puts him at the top. Kenny was unbelievable behind the front man but Stevie can dictate the game anywhere on the pitch. If he played at right back he would be one of the best right backs in the world. Sadly for most he will never be considered the greatest player to play for us until he wins a league title.
Tosh Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 Amazing last night how much time he spent on the "left". He may well be a right footer but there's no way a defender can shackle him by pushing him onto his weaker foot. Toshack was right about him and Torres though. "The opposition know what they can do and try all they can to stop them. And don't". (Saturday excepted)
_00_deathscar Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 In Torres' moment of brilliance (when he did that lovely backheel to bamboozle the defender), it was forgotten that Gerrard's little check back was rather good as well.
