LondonRed Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 (edited) I've only been coming to Anfield for the past 3/4 seasons and have always thought the atmosphere has been incredible, but recently its not been as lively as usual..especially since the turn of the year as results havent been going our way, and moreso over the last 2/3 games. I can understand its a downer that we've taken our foot off the gas in terms of the fapl, but imo we should all be getting behind the team whatever the situation. We have Real visiting us tomorrow and the next stage of our champions league campaign. We still have the champions league to play for please can we bring the atmosphere back to how it should be - as a 12th man starting tomorrow. Don't think there'll be any problem with the atmosphere tomorrow, never has been for European games. Its chalk and cheese from a run of the mill league game to a Champions League game against a European giant like Real Madrid, the atmosphere goes from pathetic to electric. Can't wait just to be there tomorrow. Don't really enjoy home games against the likes of Stoke that much anymore because the atmosphere is so poor. Particularly as I have to sit in the f*cking Moan Stand which is the worst of the lot. Edited March 9, 2009 by Leo No.8
Molby Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 we need a shoot on sight policy for the multitude of gobschites that have invaded us maybe not with real bullets but certainly plastic ones or paint ball pellets so eg if you boo, one of the sniping stewards blasts you, you get covered in red paint and therefore marked out as a 'fan' that boos their own team, like a runaway slave in Roman times that had their forehead branded when recaptured this more extreme measure supercedes my anti-booing charter but I think we can all agree that the time has come to take action

Even that'd be too f*cking quick.

Particularly as I have to sit in the f*cking Moan Stand which is the worst of the lot.Best atmosphere for a 'minor' league game in the last decade was when we stuffed the Geordies in the 'Anelka' match. The reason - Floodlight failure. We all got locked in and there was nothing to do but sing and chant in the semi dark hoping the game would still be on, then the lights came on and the atmosphere was great. Best atmosphere I've ever been to was Chelsea home 2005. Again, it was down to the pre match crowd. People got in early, the ground was 3/4 full when Chelsea came out to warm up, the noise was deafening, you could see Terry et al s*** themselves at this reception a full 3/4hr before kick off. Solution, lock the gates 30 mins before kick off get that atmosphere from the pub into the ground. Open them again 10 mins in to the first half for late arrivals. Doesn't matter for tomorrow the game is big enough for the atmosphere to take care of itself.
matty Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 People have been complaining about this for years, nay decades. Atmosphere was always better in the past. I watched the Big Match Revisited on ITV 4 the other day, Liverpool away at Chelsea, 1979. The only thing you could hear from the crowd was what sounded like a group of children singing 'Coooome oooon youuuu Reeeeds' and 30 seconds later 'Coooom ooooon youuuuu bluuuuues' from the Chelsea end. Piss poor.

Mike Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 The atmosphere wasn't always great in the gO0d oLd DazE, so stop being a reactionary b****x.true but never this bad.
matty Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 But it could be better now, right?I dare say. But there's something funny about the people who go to the match complaining about the atmosphere, when the atmosphere is created by those who...er....go to the match.

Piss poor. I watched that - I think it may have been a stand full of local schoolkids who were doing it. Not really representative of anything, matty. It was an away game, after all. Who the feck was that goalie though?

The 'Big Yugoslav' was clearly destined for cult status...until Chelsea finished bottom that season.
smithdown Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 So you're using the atmosphere at Stamford Bridge in the days when they were yo-yoing between divisions in front of their half-arsed supporters and a stand full of schoolies on a freebie as a yardstick to judge Anfield by. You're bang on form, I'll give you that.

That's like saying Steven Gerrard can't complain about the performance of the Liverpool team because he is....er....in the Liverpool team.

Flasher Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 Particularly as I have to sit in the f*cking Moan Stand which is the worst of the lot. That's long term season ticket holders for you.
Roscoe Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 from sid lowe in the guardian today: "There have been more requests from socios – members – for tonight's game than any other in Madrid's history, finals apart. They have fought for tickets to Anfield because they are tickets to Anfield as much they are tickets for Liverpool-Madrid".
£440,000 Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 Basically says, "This is Anfield... what's the big deal?" Wish I was there tonight to help show them.
