Boca Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 Tony Barrett RICK Parry is set to leave Liverpool Football Club. The ECHO understands Parry’s departure by mutual consent will be officially announced by Liverpool later today. The long serving chief executive will not leave with immediate effect though with all parties in agreement that he will remain in position until the end of the current season. Speculation will inevitably surface suggesting Parry has lost a power struggle with Reds boss Rafa Benitez but the ECHO understands the real reason for his power is an acknowledgement that his relationship with Tom Hicks is unworkable. As yet, there are no indications about who will replace Parry when his time at the club comes to an end
McBain Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 Rafa wins. Now get him signed up. Rafa and Hicks win
Leo No.8 Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 (edited) Now he can finally enrol in clown college and get his qualifications. Seems like that Sky reporter is in the know then. Nothing against Parry himself but this is almot certainly good news. Hicks and Gillett will be gone eventually, in he short term this means Rafa stays which is the single most important factor. Woodsyla Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 Rafa and Hicks winWho cares, Parry is gone, Rafa will stay, Hicks is on borrowed time as he has to find £350m by June. This is a great result.
Swipe Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 Great news. Perhaps the wheels are eventually starting to turn
bazz Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 Great news if true Not because of the breakdown in the relationship with Hicks and Rafa etc, but his complete and utter ineptitude in marketing Liverpool FC around the world. How we could fall behind Arsenal & Chelsea's of this world with our huge worldwide name is nothing short of an absolute disgrace. There is only 1 thing I agreed with Hicks on and that was his assessment of Parry's reign in charge and how Liverpool has fallen behind so much. I await the announcement on liverpool.tv, and fingers crossed it does happen.

Who cares? Parry voted against the tumour. There are no buyers for the club, he may yet get the banks to refinance. If he puts his own stooge on the board we'll be even worse off Edited February 27, 2009 by Mcbain
Rimbeux Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 I thought he'd be the last of the current four men in charge to go, sure sign Hicks will hang on until he goes cold imo. Interesting what happens next, very
Bailo Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 Yeah, I'd be a little wary of this. Hicks has removed some more boardroom opposition to anything he wants if the stories of Parry siding with Gillet were true.
fred milne Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 Rafa and Hicks winBetter that than Gillett and Parry win.
Swipe Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 If we were counting on Parry to help us ward off Hicks and ensure his stay at the club wasn't long-term, then we really were in trouble.
Anfield Fox Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 Fantastic! Best news i've heard coming out of the club in ages.
The walters step over Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 (edited) Who cares? Parry voted against the tumour. There are no buyers for the club, he may yet get the banks to refinance. If he puts his own stooge on the board we'll be even worse off The optimist part of me hopes that Parry going means Rafa signing a new, medium term contract which the two greedy b*stards know would be a crucial factor in getting the best price possible for their stake this summer. The pessimist part of me thinks that you may well be right in that it means that Gillette is admitting defeat and Hicks will take total control of the club in the coming months. As far as Parry is concerned, he probably won't be remembered fondly but he IS a fan of the club and I suppose to be kind to him, you have to say that he did try his best and was instrumental in bringing rafa to the club so he did do some good things for the club. Personally, I couldn't give a flying f*** about the marketing of LFC around the world. But if Parry was delaying/unnecessarily preventing us signing any of our manager's transfer targets, that would be of more interest to me.

I await the announcement on liverpool.tv, and fingers crossed it does happen. I don't know how often this comes up on here but please take some time to examine the relative importance of marketing football around the world. Almost all football income is generated from tv, sponsorship, match day revenue and from local sales of merchandise. A tiny, almost insignificant part is made up from overseas marketing. To put it bluntly, Man U are so far ahead commercially because of their massive stadium capacity and their success on the pitch. The two go hand in hand.If thats where we want to be, we need to get a bigger stadium to meet the demand for tickets and get that extra revenue to Rafa and let him chose the players. Thats largely where Parry has failed, not in selling a few thousand shirts in Singapore.
M4TTA Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 i've got a little funny tingling over me, but will wait for official news

But if Parry was delaying/unnecessarily preventing us signing any of our manager's transfer targets, that would be of more interest to me. Well thats is what always surprises me, i.e. the fact that people don't seem to "get it" a) Fans wants club to compete with United & Chelsea and buy the top players at millions b) Fans don't care that the club is marketed around the world generating money to fund these top players If Parry had done the job he was supposed to and maximised the money that could be generated in the name of Liverpool we would be able to 1) Buy the top players to compete and win the Premiership2) Been in a better financial position where no-marks like Gillett and Hicks couldn't have got near buying our great club But sure lets just not buy our replica jersey's, and have our petty boycotts but still demand that the manager gets numerous 20-30millions to spend on new players

Interesting what happens next, very He did seem to be the Teflon kid. But there was talk of his contract running out soon and I couldn't, for the life of me, see Hicks agreeing to renew it. This announcement must be tied in with Rafa's contract demands.

downunder Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 (edited) None of us know if this is good news or not. If it means Rafa does sign and gets on with his job that is a bonus. None of us have a clue what Parry has been doing or not doing in the past 6 months, except taking all the blame for everything that Rafa isn't. Time will tell what this means, with him staying until the end of the season it could mean that he actually stays after, if there is a takeover. The obvious candidate is Ian Ayre to get his job which he would do well I think, but then who will come and do Ian's job? Interesting times (as usual). Edited February 27, 2009 by downunder

Not signing David Beckham is a secondary thing, very secondary
matlfc Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 Worried that they may bring in a bigger idiot.
