Dan Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 Couldn't see a match thread, so here we go. F*ckin idiots have given Rafa his team talk already the arrogant tw*ts. "In Madrid we're going to win 3-0, and at Anfield (10 March) we'll also win 2-1 because they'll open up and we'll overrun them," said the club's interim president Vicente Boluda. "I want to win and we are going to do it in both legs," said Real's former Chelsea winger Arjen Robben.
Rory Fitzgerald Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 Oh cr@p, I better go to bed early tomorrow
Dan Posted February 24, 2009 Author Posted February 24, 2009 it's not till tomorrow Sorry didn't realise they were always on the day of the game.
kop205 Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 Sorry didn't realise they were always on the day of the game. Don't think they are and to be honest this is a welcome distraction, it is good to actually have a game to talk about. The usual and expected Madrid bravado in those comments. Fair enough, they fancy it, suddenly looks a much better tie for them than it did when the draw as made but any side with Torres and Gerrard should be feared as they'll hopefully find out. Anyone know if Agger has travelled? Apparently he got a back injury playing for Denmark? (Not that I'd expect him to start like but just curious).
Hieronymus Bosch Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 Got a bad feeling about tomorrow. The priority is to defend, but with Gerrard a doubt, I can't see where our thrust is going to come from on the break, with Riera and (to a lesser extent) Kuyt out of form. Alonso and Benayoun (if he plays) will be absolutely key; we can't afford to leave Torres isolated and bypass the midfield with long punts from Carra et al.
carrafan Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 The pitch is f***ing huge at the Bernebeu and very different from most ones in England. And hence i dont expect us to hassle and harry them when they have the ball from the front. When we went to Barca, we maintained our shape all the time and gave them time on the ball in their half and made it tough for them to break our back line and i expect something similar here. You could see that a concious (spelling?) effort was being made to keep it tight and fall back when they had possession in areas of the pitch which werent dangerous, because in a big pitch if a player's out of position a huge gap is left behind which is tough to be filled in by another player. I expect us to play a lot of long balls to Torres (and Kuyt) and hope the industry and engine of Gerrard make something out of it. The last thing Rafa would want to see is a stretched game with the likes of Robben running at our defense and the movement of Raul and Higuain looking to get into space and shoot at goal. Their fullbacks arent the greatest and thats why i want Babel to play especially as the pitch is wide. He can kick it into space and run at them...also if he decides to come inside there always Aurelio who can make the overlapping run and look to put in a cross. A big pitch and players with movement give Alonso runs to spot as well. Crouch would have been a handful in this game but thats water under the bridge. Hope to keep a clean sheet and maybe even nick a goal somewhere.

Shame really, his style is suited to a bigger playing area.
Swipe Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 Agger hasn't travelled due to his back injury.

That said Riera's been in poor form and deserves to be dropped. Its either Yossi and Babel and i'm going for Babel because his pace will be useful here even if he's really dumb. Benayoun's been in great form recently, though.

gns Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 (edited) Just heard Rafa on 5live, and the reporter who watched 15 mins of training at the Bernabau today - I get the feeling he wont play. Gerrard that is. Edited February 24, 2009 by gns

Falconhoof Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 I wouldn't start Gerrard, don't expect him to. I just hope we can stay in the tie and get them back to Anfield.
Bo Benn Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 I for one am optimistic about tomorrow. Think we'll see Alonso and Mascherano in their primes, they will be key and they will deliver. Mark my words. One thing that worries me a bit about tomorrow and every time we miss Gerrard (assuming does not start) is his replacement and the effect it has on our attacking play. Kuyt's mostly played there, at least that is my impression and I don't think it works. He does not have the ability to connect midfield and forward line imo. Benayoun is a better choice, I can't help get the feeling that every time he kick things off around the penalty area or bringing the ball forward towards an attacking position we have a much better chance for the attack to end up with an effort on goal than anyone else in our team except Gerrard.
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 I have complete faith in Rafa & him knowing what needs to be done with/without Gerrard
allawee Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 I think we'll win tomorrow night.I really like your optimism. I hope so, but I will be happy with a draw considering our current form
cymrococh Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 Going by who's wearing bibs and who isn't, Gerrard plays. http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/drilldown/N...090224-2140.htm
_00_deathscar Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 Excellent spot. But that also means Rafa is playing, and Sammy Lee isn't.

cymrococh Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 i don't believe that rafa would be that blatant. he'd know there were photographers there. It's the normal pre-match training session though - team that plays v players that don't. He's not going to change that just because there's camera's there.
fred milne Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 Unless my eyes deceive me, Dossena isn't wearing a bib either and that is a worry.
