fred milne Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 (edited) I can't see a thread on this anywhere. With Gerrard out injured and Xabi suspended, I'd go for something like this: ReinaArbeloa Carra Agger InsuaYossi Masch Aurelio RieraKuyt Torres Edited February 20, 2009 by Macca
Chili Palmer Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 I would love to see, Pepe Skrtel Carra Agger Arbeloa Masch Dossena Kuyt Yossi Riera Torres I won't tho.
Swipe Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 Agree that Aurelio should start instead of Lucas. Lucas and Masch has been a terrible partnership any time i've seen it. With Xabi and Gerrard out, i'd also go along with starting Yossi, so we have a bit of guile on the pitch
Sion Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 I would love to see, Pepe Skrtel Carra Agger Arbeloa Masch Dossena Kuyt Yossi Riera Torres I won't tho. that'd be crackingwe'd well win 3-2 in the last minute
honourablegeorge Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 ReinaArbeloa Carra Agger InsuaKuyt Masch Aurelio Riera Yossi Torres
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 this is a tough one with Ste probably out & Xabi suspended I like that lineup. Can't see the 3 at the back experiment continuing though
Mike Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 got to be aurelio and masch. bloody hell, its not good is it.

Swipe Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 Apart from at Newcastle. Maybe I didn't see that one Fair enough, Lucas was very good that day. Still don't rate him though - but that's for another argument. I'd like to see Aurelio in there
Rory Fitzgerald Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 Would like to see Aurelio in midfield but can only Lucas playing.
Mike Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 Apart from at Newcastle.we had stevie g running the show then though don't forget
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 one concern is wrapping Aurelio in cotton wool for Madrid next week, but we have to go at City. Anything less than a win - assuming the Mancs win, which they will - really puts a title challenge in the s***
Marvin Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 With City having so much wealth its important we field our most expensive players for this one
stressederic Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 The good thing about City is that they won't just sit and defend all game, because they're s*** at it, they're going to try and get forwards which should hopefully leave enough time and space for us to get in on goal.
McBain Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 I can't see a thread on this anywhere. With Gerrard out injured and Xabi suspended, I'd go for something like this: ReinaArbeloa Carra Agger InsuaYossi Masch Aurelio RieraKuyt Torres Fabio in at lb maybe if fit. Otherwise it's what i hope for. I hope the players can focus on this one and not have one eye on Madrid. This is just as big a game
Frosty Jack Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 With City having so much wealth its important we field our most expensive players for this one Indeed, we wont stand a chance out there otherwise
John am Rhein Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 Players should be judged purely on their creativity. Anything else could be done just as well by a random person selected off the street.
Alonso Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 Think we'll see: Reina Arbeloa Carragher Skrtel Aurelio Lucas Mascherano Kuyt Yossi Riera Torres Would like to see: Reina Carragher Skrtel Agger Arbeloa Mascherano Aurelio Dossena Kuyt Torres Riera
Cam Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 Feck it; 3-1-5-1 for a laugh. Anyone that doesn't score gets sold. ReinaSkrtel Carragher AggerMascheranoKuyt Benayon Pacheco Babel RieraTorres

ReinaSkrtel Carragher AggerMascheranoKuyt Benayon Pacheco Babel RieraTorres Lovin' it. Now seems the time to espouse my theory on there really being only 3 formations in modern football. There's 442 and 451, which are very very similar, and then there's 3-5-2. There are nuances within these formations, depending on personnel selected but most teams are basically setting themselves up in the same way. Apart from the 352 merchants, all other formations are remarkably alike and I find it funny that people are seeing 4 -1 - 1 - 3 -1,or whatever, in our system at times. i suspect they do it to delude themselves we are more attacking than we actually are. Week in week out we play four across the back and four across our midfield. The only variation is the role of the second striker with Gerrard playing. Sometimes he's dropped back to augment central midfield, and sometimes he's further forward. Compare today with our '88 team, which was routinely described as being set up as a classic 442. Nowadays that midfield would lead people to describe us as being set out as a 4-1-1-3-1 side. With Barnes, Houghton, and withdrawn stiker Beardsley all attacking from behing the fulcrum of John Aldridge. Whelan would sit deep and McMahon would be given license to break forward from central midfield. Nothing remarkable in that, it was just how 4-4-2s worked, and they still do work that way, but why we now have to dissect them as 4-1-4-1s or whatever is beyond me.
Earl Hafler Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 Chris Kamara has gone for a 2-0 win to City. Why ? Because he thinks Rafa's luck has run out.
Sion Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 Chris Kamara has gone for a 2-0 win to City. Why ? Because he thinks Rafa's luck has run out. Unbelieveable Jeff
