David Hodgson Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 in every sense? nah I mean I was a lot younger then. Jesus, it makes me feel old. Nostalgia is never a happy place.
Zoob Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 I got the series on DVD for chrimbo. Smile ? Makes me want to weep for better days. In every f*cking sense. Margret Thatcher but seeing that does bring back some crazy old nostalgic memories.
anny road Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 Brilliant I have recenttly read the books....it was Keegan not Kenny in the book....fits better with Kenny "Cripple? Cripple? have you got me balls Cripple" "Communist""erm no I'm a Roman Catholic" Mooey.....genius "yyyyeeeeesssss Scull"
Chili Palmer Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 my dad bought me a Liverpool teddy when I was a kid and his name was Scully. my daughter has it now. (I still give it a cuddle when I see it in her room...ahem...I'm going to stop typing now)
smithdown Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 Was at that game and The Kop did indeed sing his name. Some of my family were in St Columba's where Bleasdale taught and reckoned they knew who the characters were based on. Centred around a family called...wait for it...Cully, who lived in Huyton. Mooey was some softlad who used to follow the other kids to town, or the match, or wherever they were going even though he had bricks thrown at him and was always told to eff off. He'd follow them at a safe distance and sometimes catch them up and carry on like nothing had happened, til he'd get on someone's nerves and get told to eff off again.

Bo Benn Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 Not sure I would be able to tell the difference between the Sammy Lee of '85 and today.
Billy Talbot Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 Why's he called Isiah? 'Cos one eye's higher than the other.
muleskinner Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 Was there a 1 armed caretaker/janitor character called the Wingy who used to b****** them for playing football were they shouldn't? I'm convinced there is, going to have buy the dvd to find out.
pt101 Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 I like the bit where Mooey is forced to sing 'Light My Fire' under duress (lighter flame at the poor sod's head). Anyone here remember a series called One Summer? Think it was a channel 4 series around the same time.
Frosty Jack Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 Anyone here remember a series called One Summer? Think it was a channel 4 series around the same time. In 1984, Liverpool was so often seen and heard, at its most depressed period in history, think of all the scouse voices you would hear on TV back then, tv, film, music. Took it for granted as a child.
meredithmathieson Posted February 15, 2009 Posted February 15, 2009 You can order 'Scully', 'One Summer' etc on Amazon. Brings back memories. I like the way Nando talks about the obvious awe in which King Kenny is held even today.

I'm convinced there is, going to have buy the dvd to find out. there was, and caracas.... they get b******ed for playing footy in the gym, but the teacher Steve (ex Blackburn player)...the janitor is carrying a mop over his shoulder....and the door flies open and it smashes it
Jacks Jackie Jackson Posted February 15, 2009 Posted February 15, 2009 Some of my family were in St Columba's where Bleasdale taught and reckoned they knew who the characters were based on. Centred around a family called...wait for it...Cully, who lived in Huyton. Mooey was some softlad I've just had to ring our Julie to discuss this; she lives in Wiltshire now. Anyway, she was taught by Alan Bleasdale at St. Columba's and I distictly remember her stories at the time of Scully and Mooey who were two of her class mates. She says the family weren't called Cully though but Schofield and that's where the Scully name comes from. A punishment awaited any kid who wasn't fast enough to get a seat elsewhere in the class or canteen and that was they'd have to sit next to Mooey as his personal hygiene left a lot to be desired.
anny road Posted February 15, 2009 Posted February 15, 2009 my fave bit is when Mooey is going on to Scully and the girl he fancied about playing football in school.... then scully says something like "Can I go to your school, Moo...it sounds like a right laugh" mooey says "erm, I'll ask the driver Scull...he sometimes lets Albi Browns mum on to go shoppin'"
