magneto Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 I don't like being negative, especially after a victory, but perhaps he is out of his depth and is just not going to cut it. I don't doubt his commitment, but I can't see how he will improve. He's gotten worse since his debut season.
moptop46 Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 Babels play an attitude is well below what is expected.Get shut in the summer while the price is still high.
stressederic Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 He looked alright in the first half, haven't seen the 2nd yet (or his miss) so can't comment too much.
billybunter Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 was thinking the same. Just makes the wrong decision everytime. Some things you can teach a footballer and some things you cant. You either have a 'footballer's brain' or you dont.
anfield11 Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 His only real asset is his shot from distance, but he doesn't have the ability to make space for himself to use it. That's about as kind as I can be.
Jim D Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 (edited) Been hugely disappointing this season, shame really after he showed glimpses of his ability last season. He is just not right in the head at the moment and you have to question his strength of character and mentality to get himself out of this rut he is in. His decision making on the field is hugely questionable, unless he picks himself up come end of the season he'll be the first to go in the summer. The lad has got the ability but he doesn't have the brain to go with it. DanielS Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 Just want to sneak up behind him and when its really quiet jump out and scream "WRONG f***ING FOOT". But only after I've done it to Riise and Keane.
Behind Enemy Lines Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 I bet Dee contributes to this thread
gns Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 The title run in is showing a few players just aint got what it takes. Babel is sticking out like a sore thumb. Today was his big chance to lead the line and really show what he can do but he f***ed it royally. Rafa has some kind of faith in him thats clear, otherwise he would have been cast out a-la-keane but time has got to be running out now.
Crazy Horse Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 Dee was right about him all along. We'd be better off with Cisse. But Rafa needs to figure out a way to get something out of him between now and the summer.

Beyond that.
Bootle Buck Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 (edited) He seems to have no clue of what to do with the ball when he has it. He constantly runs into defenders and loses the ball. He doesn't have the bottle for the English game. He bottles out of most challenges. He is Dutch League material and nothing more. Edited February 7, 2009 by Bootle Buck
Molby Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 there's a player in there somewhere we must find him, THIS season if we are to win the PL

gns Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 there's a player in there somewhere we must find him, THIS season if we are to win the PL I dont think Babel is gonna to be difference between us winning it or not. The impact of the subs today tells us all we need to know about what we need to win it - a fit torres, alonso, (and gerrard)
Gunga Din Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 there's a player in there somewhere we must find him, THIS season if we are to win the PL he hasnt got the bottle. he never had it. he is a coward.
Hassony Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 he hasnt got the bottle. he never had it. he is a coward. no bottle, no hunger for the game, no footballing brain apart from that he is ok!
CarraLegend Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 Bye bye in the summer I think. Doesnt have the heart for it. Im starting to think I overrated his actual ability bigtime aswell, there doesnt seem that much there.
eth Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 I thought he played quite well today and in his appearance on Wednesday, barring the obvious, particularly as regards his strength. He is, admittedly, mentally not quite there at the moment- he hasn't imposed himself on games this season, and his judgement has been off. Still think if he can get settled in to the life and find a place in the team he'll be a big asset and a top player. It's unfair to accuse him, physically at least, of being a coward, he certainly wasn't today. He just looks like he's in a hostile environment.
uppsala Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 I don't like being negative, especially after a victory, but perhaps he is out of his depth and is just not going to cut it. I don't doubt his commitment, but I can't see how he will improve. He's gotten worse since his debut season. To me his atitude is that of a player who wants away from the club.
WillG Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 To be fair to the boy (and remember he's still young) a striker (or winger) by the nature of their position need to produce something out of the ordinary to make an impact. This can only be done if you are confident in your place in the side and playing regularly... and he's hardly had a look in recently. If Rafa doesn't fancy him he should get rid asap as he's no David Fairclough and will never have the nececessary impact as a sub or bit part player.
Sion Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 should get 5m for him in the summer, sell him. will get at least double that from some club with more money than sense
allawee Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 no bottle, no hunger for the game, no footballing brain apart from that he is ok! Really harsh on him. Last season, I thought everytime he did well and was rested for the next game or brought on as sub, that Rafa was protecting him in cotton wool for him to blossom and develop. This season, the same treatment continues, and his confident is shot, but the poor lad gets the blame again. Otherwise, how do you explain the PSV and Newcastle games?! Also, why is he always played on the left when clearly he prefers his right foot as demo'd by the miss today. Surely a case of trying to fit a square pig in a round hole, and he just would not fit. Give him a chance on the right. Gurantee him some freedom and time in the team without the threat of sub or drop and bet you, you will see the real Babel.
stonty Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 An unintelligent footballer, every decision he makes is the wrong one & so sick of seeing him wimp out of tackles & headers. With the right attitude he could have set the league on fire, sadly we've seen this all before with Mark Gonzales & f*** me we bought another one!
