Guest PaulMcC Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 When's he back from that u20 tournament? We need him at the minute.
Sion Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 last round of games is on Sunday, but he'll probably be knackered after playing 9 games in 3 weeks. Won't expect him near the first team till Man City on 22nd
Hassony Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 We need him at the minute. why? Both aurellio and Dossena have played well in the last few games
Malcolm X Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 He'll be back for the City game. Dont think he'll get in ahead of Aurelio.
stressederic Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 I can't really say I woke up this morning, remembered that Gerrard was injured and declared to myself "we need our young argentine left back to return to the team."

Last night when Dossena was playing badly i was thinking i wish we had Insua for when Aurelio doesn't play.
floyd the barber Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 I don't think Dossena is playing well. really?thought he had a good game last night......wasnt up to his usual standards with his crossing, though that could be said for the whole team.

He had loads of space a few times and his touch and crossing let him down. He didn't get skinned much cos they only had Hibbert going forward on that side.
baz2107 Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 out of all our left backs this season Insua has been the best IMO, Not saying getting him back in the side is our biggest concern but out of the 4 games we've played him in the league we;ve won 3 and drawn at Arsenal.
Earl Hafler Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 why? Both aurellio and Dossena have played well in the last few games They've done alright but Insua was playing better and is more reliable than Aurelio. Dossena got forward last night but was pretty hopeless with his final ball. He's been so poor this season that whenever he has a half decent game, it's deemed better than it was. There have been signs of improvement but Insua has been the better player and has more potential - he should be figuring as much as possible when available.
fred milne Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 I'd like to see Insua get the nod too. More reliable defensively than Dossena and more willing to overlap than Aurelio.
Hassony Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 I'd like to see Insua get the nod too. More reliable defensively than Dossena and more willing to overlap than Aurelio. I agree with that I just don't think we are as desperate for him to return as PaulMcC makes it out to be
Leo No.8 Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 (edited) I'd like to see Insua get the nod too. More reliable defensively than Dossena and more willing to overlap than Aurelio. I also agree with this - plus he's about nine years younger than either of them and still inexperienced so very likely to improve. Aurelio and Dossena are probably about as good as they're going to get. I think all three bring some good qualities; Aurelio probably edges it as the best overall left back right now as he has greater experience and is an outstanding footballer, but looking to the future I think Insua needs to be first choice. Considering how few games he's played Insua has looked remarkably assured when he's made the step up. To me thats the sign of a really, really good player in the making when they look comfortable straight away at the top level. Edited February 6, 2009 by Leo No.8
impware Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 I've not seen it mentioned but I've just noticed he didn't make the CL squad. Understandably seeing how on paper (if not grass) Aurelio and Dossena are ahead of him but a pity when there are other reserve lads, who haven't a chance of a game, included in the squad to meet the 'Homegrown' quota. I thought he'd been training with us for long enough to meet the criteria?
Gunga Din Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 having watched the 3 of them, i reckon Dossena will be our 1st choice left back next season

Magic8Ball Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 having watched the 3 of them, i reckon Dossena will be our 1st choice left back next seasoncare to elaborate on that?
Gunga Din Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 care to elaborate on that? i think he is the best player of the 3 and has more to his game than the other 2
Hassony Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 i think he is the best player of the 3 and has more to his game than the other 2 I agree i think Aurellio is a decent left back, with a good left foot but his injury record makes him a liability to be first choice Insua is a very good prospect, he seems to me to be a steady player, rather than a spectacular player dossena has struggled a bit (as all italians who leave Italy tend to do ), but I have seen signs in him that he is settling in and working hard on the weaker aspects (understanding of tactics, defending and heading the ball), he has improved a lot on all three, and I would love to have a left back who is always willing to bomb forward, as Doessena seems to want to do

Flasher Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 he is also a fantastic passer of the football, so instead of hopeful punts up the park that we have become accustomed to by other defenders, he can actually play the thing out of defence. I've been quite surprised by the amonut of long balls from Aurelio lately. Thought he was better than that. I also think Aurelio has had an affect on Riera's form too, even though they like eachother. Riera cuts in far more now than he used, with Aurelio overlapping. All well and good if Aurelio sticks a decent ball in, ala Chelsea, but it happens to infrequently. Dossena has he best delivery. That said, i'm keen on Insua and think he could be really good.

But I've also seen poor positioning, poor touch, poor defending all bad.TBH what will sway the balance for me, is if he can pick out a decent pass, beat a man and shows signs of improving in the poorer areas above. what's clear is that so far, poor though he has been. he's mad an effort to improve.
Boca Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 Insua isn't in the Champions League squad so Rafa obviously thinks he can do without him.
