Jim D Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Looking forward to this game, Portsmouth are a poor team but no doubt will raise their game for when we arrive in town. Taking three points is imperative to build on that good win against Chelsea and to reclaim top spot off the Mancs. This game will a good test of our character and see whether we've got the stomach to fight for the League title. Be nice for a change if we could put the Mancs under some sort of pressure going into their game against West Ham on Sunday.
Swipe Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Last night's game produced only negatives at the moment, but we always seem to pull out a performance when we're up against it. Hopefully we can get a win and then have a break for a few weeks.
fred milne Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 (edited) I'd go with this: ReinaArbeloa Carra Agger AurelioYossi Xabi Masch RieraTorres Kuyt Subs: Cavalieri, Dossena, Skrtel, Hyypia, Babel, El Zahar, Ngog. Edited February 5, 2009 by fred milne
Malcolm X Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Last night's game produced only negatives at the moment, but we always seem to pull out a performance when we're up against it. Hopefully we can get a win and then have a break for a few weeks. Agreed. I have a feeling that Xabi will boss the game with some squad players stepping up to the plate. Xabi always seems to raise his game when asked to take the responsibility. I will never forget his performance in the Derby when Gerrard got sent off. His form this season has been close to that level. My team would be: ----------------------Reina---------------------- Arbeloa---------Carra--------Skrtel----------Aurelio -----------------Xabi-------Masch---------------- ----Benayoun---------Babel----------Reira-------- ------------------Torres------------------------- Subs: CavalieriKuytAggerPachecoSpearingNgogDossena
Hassony Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 i would like to see babel given a chance, both their full backs like to push forward and babel might be able to explore that space I thought he looked fired up yesterday, and did well holding the ball up
Raj Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 My team would be: ----------------------Reina---------------------- Arbeloa---------Carra--------Skrtel----------Aurelio -----------------Xabi-------Masch---------------- ----Benayoun---------Kuyt----------Babel-------- ------------------Torres-------------------------
Flasher Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 ----------------------Reina---------------------- Arbeloa---------Carra--------Skrtel----------Aurelio-----------------Xabi-------Masch--------------------Benayoun---------Babel----------Reira--------------------------Torres------------------------- That's a very good looking team, though i'd still like to see Yossi tried behind Torres, with Babel wide right. Kuyt will play whatever though.
matty Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 It's going to snow like a motherf*cker down this way all day tomorrow, so hopefully will continue into saturday and we can have this postponed.

stressederic Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 It's going to snow like a motherf*cker down this way all day tomorrow, so hopefully will continue into saturday and we can have this postponed. The BBC online weather forecast keeps changing its mind about the upcoming weather. It's predicted heavy snow, heavy rain, light snow and now sleet. f*** knows what we'll end up with.
Sion Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 It's going to snow like a motherf*cker down this way all day tomorrow, so hopefully will continue into saturday and we can have this postponed. Whilst that may seem like a good idea at first, it'll leave us in the s*** for the Man City game, with No Alonso, Lucas or Gerrard.
stressederic Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 (edited) Whilst that may seem like a good idea at first, it'll leave us in the s*** for the Man City game, with No Alonso, Lucas or Gerrard. That could well be the case regardless of whether the Pompey game gets snowed off. Edited February 5, 2009 by stressederic

mathewbet1 Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 .................Reina......................Arbeloa Carra Agger AurelioKuyt Alonso Masch Riera.............Yossi...................................Torres......................
allawee Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Whilst that may seem like a good idea at first, it'll leave us in the s*** for the Man City game, with No Alonso, Lucas or Gerrard. Hopefully play Portsmouth, win and top the table on Saturday. The psychological effect and the belief this will have on the players without Gerrard and after the departure of Keane could be vital to our season.
Rory Fitzgerald Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 I'd love to see Benayoun behind Torres and was glad to see Rafa deploy it away at Everton. Benayoun is a guy that loves the ball and can feint either way - its a great combination for support striker in the center of the pitch. Out wide he gets lost sometimes but I think he can have more of an influence in the center. Especially now that Gerrard is missing, this guy loves the ball. I'm not trying to say he is anyway near as influential as Gerrard but where Kuyt, Babel, Torres etc might start running channels for our midfielders, Benayoun I think would offer a different option by finding space and wanting to play some quick football (when he doesnt fancy turning his man for the 783rd time). Kinda like Garcia and Smicer - he can be incredibly creative aswell as frustrating but I would take that instead of just being incredibly frustrated
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Whilst that may seem like a good idea at first, it'll leave us in the s*** for the Man City game, with No Alonso, Lucas or Gerrard.Xabi suspended?
Sion Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Xabi suspended? yeah, as his 5th yellow was on a sunday it doesn't kick in till the following sunday, one day after the portsmouth game.
John am Rhein Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 We'll start with a point and if, after 90 minutes, we've kept a clean sheet, we'll still have it.
Roscoe Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 We'll start with a point and if, after 90 minutes, we've kept a clean sheet, we'll still have it. you are Rafa and I claim.... etc etc
CarraLegend Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 Be surprised if it goes ahead as it stands, Fratton Park isnt exactly best equipped to deal with bad weather is it? Im sure they already had one postponement there this season aswell, though cant remeber what that was for.
Bailo Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 Light rain predicted there all today and sunny tomorrow, should be able to manage that!
