Thing is - and it was pointed out in the article - there's very little point trying to make money by fixing a football game because there's just too many people need to be involved. People are obviously making loads by fixing Tenis and snooker because it's just so easy, and particularly if you're not very good at your sport, fixing the result will often guarantee far more money than you receive for taking part in a tournament.

The idea of Istanbul being fixed is one of the most absurd ideas ever, and the article pretty much views it that way too.

Dudek's double save at the end was also planned then?

Or was Shev the only one not aware of the fix? As he also had one disallowed and another cleared off the line by Traore

And wouldn't Dida have found it easier just to let Xabi's penalty in, rather than palm it back out to him to score the rebound.

In print, they lead with the idea that Istanbul was fixed, have a picture of Liverpool, make sure they mention it in the article, then add that the author of the book doesn't believe it, but they used Istanbul as the hook for the article.

Different subs obviously and seems to be part of the recent trend where they've started veering wildly between wanting to be tabloid trash and out-seriousing the Indy.

they'd rehearsed that before the game. keep up.

But an asian-gambling connected bloke rang Liberation and told them he'd fixed it. He sounded well mobster-ish and everything.

Credit to Smicer for threading that shot through a pile of defenders, and missing Baros by inches as it went in right at the edge of the post. Top notch shooting!

Every time I watch that final a huge smile spreads across my face. It reminds why I support this fantastic football club. It was without doubt the best night of my life.

It was a hell of a fix.

Even if we were biased against the match in Istanbul, say that it was utd v milan and everything happened... How would you possible come to the conculsion that the match was fixed?

The only possible thing you could grab hold of is the the awarding of the penalty. Gerrard threw himself on the ground but of course it was a foul as he was just gonna lash the ball in had he not been pulled at....

in my view you couldnt possibly pick a worse match to claim as a fix than the final in Istanbul if you are looking to gain credability, however if you're lookin to make a quick splash headline then it's exactly the kind of game you'd pick......

meaning , Hack journo.
