So will we stick with a 4-2-3-1 or will Rafa buy another forward to try with Torres?

Maybe Aguero, Villa, Santa Cruz or Tevez?

Or, does he stick with the formation and really get some top wide players. Even pay a fortune for Ribery. Maybe he comes back in for Barry at a greatly reduced price.

:D Yoo love a bit of speculation!

Ok I'll play along. Ribery and Aguero.

It's pathetic isn't it?

I'm thinking that I probably shouldn't speculate. Resist, resist. Then the voice in my head says "But Keane got sold today. You HAVE to ask what the board thinks. You have to!!"

One player only comes to mind who fits well with Torres and that's David Villa. I believe he can also do the jodb as the loan striker. If the two bums sell, the new owners will want to impress the fans with a big signing. It will be the perfect moment to capture Villa.

gerrard to say up alongside torres..

And lets spend all the money on two top quality wingers....

Left and right wings and full back positions, as ever

Agree with both, plus another striker who offers us something different to Torres when we want to switch to plan B, who also complements him well if we want to go to 2 up front, who has a decent goal return (in case Torres is injured/off form) & who is willing to accept Torres/Gerrard are going to be 1st choice

We may also need another central midfielder to challenge Lucas as the replacement for Mascherano/Alonso as Lucas has shown so far this season he can't do it to the standard required on a consistent basis

Just one small problem we have NO cash.

I love your optimism, mate, but if you think any of the above (except Barry) are even remotely realistic then you must be delusional.

Barry has said he will stay with Villa if they qualify for the CL

"If I am playing Champions League football, there is no need to look elsewhere. That would have to be a definite. I don't want to be eating my own words."

That reads to me that 4th won't do - he doesn't want play offs.

He'll have 12 months left on his contract and I will be hugely surprised if Rafa doesn't go back in for him. I hope it comes off.

I want to know the back story to that statement.

is it because Barry's happy with Villa's progress and wants to stay?

is it because Barry wants to remind Rafa of his deal i.e. if Villa don't make the CL he's available?

is it just a rehashed story from last year ?

We need a winger who is a combination of all the good things of Riera, Kuyt, Benayoun and Babel. Anyone know any? :D Direct, fast, hard working, skillful, can beat a man

I wouldn't want us signing a striker like Villa, it'll be the Keane situation all over again, messing up with Gerrard and Torres' partnership. We need an improvement to the back ups we have for both players, but not the type of players who'll get annoyed at being back up for the majority of the time.

I'd also say we need a RB and at least 1 CB, two if Agger goes.

Sky ran the story in mid-December & I'm pretty sure that they were new comments from Barry at the time

Coupled with other comments Barry has made at several times during the season about being pleased with Villa's progress, having forgotten about the collapsed move to us & giving 100% to Villa, I take his comments that he will stay at Villa if they qualify for the CL at face value

The only question for me is whether he'd be happy to sign a new contract if Villa finish in 4th or whether he would wait until after the qualifying round to see if they get through to the group stages or not

I'm the same, I just learnt to temper it because it's a long 9 months until the next window closes :)

And let's be honest

Nothing will happen until the day before it closes when the board sanctions our twelvetieth choice

Villa get 4th we wont get Barry. Santa Cruz will cost £25m+, Villa £40m+, Aguerro £40m+. Unless we get someone to throw money at us, we wont sign any of them.

If H&G are still here, along with Parry, we'll have the same farce we had this summer.

G.and H do not have any cash,so as much as we would love top players in the summer it not looking likley is it!
