Molby Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Keane is having a medical at Spurs at the moment but who do we get in return? it's our only chance to get something out of this deal surely we don't just give back £15m that we can't re-invest right away? deadline has been extended too so the formalities of transfer deals can be completed

Doubt we will get anyone to be honest.

Woodsyla Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Keane is having a medical at Spurs at the moment but who do we get in return? it's our only chance to get something out of this deal surely we don't just give back £15m that we can't re-invest right away? deadline has been extended too so the formalities of transfer deals can be completedWe only gave them £5m up front by all accounjts so we don't get anything back. The question is, does Rafa get the £15m to spend elsewhere. I'd say he must, because he met with the owners, all the talk is about them agreeing to him controlling transfer dealings, so they must have told him what he can spend if he sells Keane. I'd expect a decent Spanish forward to arrive, not a blockbuster but a solid player.

Swipe Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Beeb just said it's been extended as long as both clubs involved confirm that a deal for a player is in place and they are satisfied that the weather has stopped it happening before 5pm. Think we need someone but can't see it.
Boca Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 The Premier League has announced it will grant applications from clubs to complete transactions after the 5pm deadline today if there is email confirmation from the two clubs involved that a deal has been agreed in principle. The club signing the player must also satisfy the board that the prevailing weather conditions have prevented the signing from being completed by the deadline. That will keep us busy well into the evening then! sky creaming themselves
Bo Benn Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Fowler is a free agent, so we can sign him regardless
Falconhoof Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 I'd possibly give Benayoun a chance up there. I can't stand him out on the right of midfield but he makes things happen around the box.I loved that volleyed shot on the half turn that just scraped the top of the net yesterday.
Gerry Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 The extension was simply to allow more time for a deal to be concluded if the weather played a part in not meeting the deadline. e.g. if a player can't perform a medical because of the snow, then as long as both clubs show the FA that the deal was agreed by 5pm and that it was only this that prevented them from completing the paperwork them they can have an extension to complete everything later. It doesn't mean you can continue to wheel and deal after 5pm trying to find someone else to get in on loan. So if someone else is to join us today, we'll know about it before 5pm.
Molby Posted February 2, 2009 Author Posted February 2, 2009 I'll take Lennon then or Bentley if we must
fabfive Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Or use N'Gog or El Zhar more... If they're ever going to get a chance this might be it.
Ben 23 Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Or use N'Gog or El Zhar more... If they're ever going to get a chance this might be it. But neither are good enough.
fabfive Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 But neither are good enough. As a 3rd-4th choice striker? Who wants to sit the bench behind Torres? Crouch didn't. Heskey apparently wouldn't. Keane apparently doesn't want to either. Our main #1 partnership is Gerrard-Torres. Do we want that broke up to accomodate someone else? People want an experienced 15-20 goal scorer behind Torres who will happily sit the bench but that is about as realisitc as Gillett being honest.
lfc003 Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 But neither are good enough. El Zhar has more end product than Lennon
Gunga Din Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 I'll take Lennon then or Bentley if we must i'd rather have neither as they arent good enough. we wont get an expensive worldbeating striker to plat 2nd fiddle to Torres or anyone else. I'd rather we got an attacking CM or RM, and use Babel, ngog, or Kuyt as backup striker.
fabfive Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Yeah, forgot to mention Babel. He needs to get his finger out and perform. At whatever role he is chosen for. At the end of the day it would be great if we could find a super sub who is happy being that.

I see posters on other sites saying "let's get Arshavin" as if it's as simple as that. The timing of this sale is ridiculous. If they wanted rid, it should have been done early January to give us enough time to get a replacement in.

If they wanted rid, it should have been done early January to give us enough time to get a replacement in. I can't see us getting anyone in at all. I'd hoped we'd squeeze the whole £20M out of Spurs, otherwise, I'd have kept Keane until the summer. He's worth keeping as a sub rather than losing him and getting no replacement.
fabfive Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 I'll get shot down for this but Fulham were trying to get Brian McBride back. He could fill the role of being a sub who would be happy to sit the bench. He's good in the air and holding the ball up. Scores a few goals too. And no, he's not a a long term solution but for 6-12 months would have been decent. But it's way to late for that now.
Berger Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 But neither are good enough. They are not yet given a run of games to prove.
