A few sources say he is off, even Bascombe, shame for the lad, he has done nothing wrong but i guess he is victim of the Parry V Benitez rant.

ROBBIE KEANE IS AXED

Liverpool ace dropped as Harry Redknapp waits to move

By CHRIS BASCOMBE, 31/01/2009

ROBBIE KEANE has suffered yet another humiliating snub by Rafa Benitez after being axed from today’s squad to face Chelsea.

And that could drive the £20m striker into Tottenham’s arms. Harry Redknapp will make a last ditch bid to re-sign Keane ahead of tomorrow’s transfer deadline after being given every encouragement by Benitez a deal can be done.

But the move by Redknapp will send the Liverpool boss on another collision course with his board.

The Anfield hierarchy are not convinced it is the right call and would only sell if the full £20m can be recouped. Even then, Keane would have final say.

Keane has been wrestling with a dilemma since hearing of Spurs’ interest — first exclusively reported in the Sport of the World on December 6.

He’s in despair at the way his Anfield career has gone — but won’t ask to leave.

He's done a lot wrong, earlier in the season he was working hard and it wasn't happening, recently, he's stopped working hard. The Everton gave was a disgrace. But I guess, we've had worse and not bombed them out as quick.

Maybe if Torres was given 60 mins per game he would struggle to find his rhythm. Just maybe.

Haha! Maybe he'd get longer if generally he wasnt so s****? I love how its all nasty Rafa now and Keane is perfect, its brilliant.

He'd have got longer if he wasn't continually ineffective and a waste of a shirt.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Voronin contributed more. It's not exaggeration or an attempt to provoke you into a response. I believe it to be true, and it's a damning indictment of Keane's contribution thus far.

Lets be honest the way we play football, does not play to R.K. strenths.

I meen 25 passes before we get over the half way line.

Oh i bet R.K loves playing for us.

God we are so predictable and boring the way rafa has us playing.

As rafa says lets draw first win second, enough said!

we were so lucky that he agreed to join us from a free flowing football top four team like spurs to a struggling outfit fighting relegation and playing boring football!

Yes draw first listen to rafa after the wigan game.

We set out with a point and the idea is not to lose that point,

And if we can get a win o.k.

But dont lose that point, rafas words says it all.

Simply a case of a signing that Rafa didnt actually want. If the manager doesnt rate the player, he's not going to pick him much, stands to reason.

To be fair to rafa, Keane hasnt exactly performed brilliantly when he's played.

Cascarino had it spot on today. Said that Keane would have been ideal to play alongside Crouch. We sold Crouch therefore Keane was only ever going to act as back up as he isn't a winger and even though he could play behind Torres Gerrard is better at that role than Keane.

just reading on the offal and somebody has posted that we have lennon as part of the deal how true this is i dont know.

no player is bigger than the club. i m with rafa all the way. if he wants keane shipped then so be it, he s the manager, it s his job to steady the ship.

but am entitled to question who and why decided to spend 20mill keane, if rafa doesnt rate him?

Gerrard and Torres scored 50 odd goals between them last season, and they have a fantastic understanding. Plus Rafa has clearly preferred to play gerrard further forward rather than in centre midfield (i.e. so I doubt Rafa would want to change his position and break up the partnership with Torres . I really wanted Keane to succeed, but his purchase - for 20 million quid, and where in the team he was going to play, made it one of the strangest LFC transfers I can remember.

Agreed, I think Rafa only ever saw Keane as a plan B - an acceptable notion if we had got him for £10-£12m. It became more of an issue once the price rose to £20m with the media going into overdrive at the merest sniff of a substitution or a benching.

It was always going to cost iro £20m to get him, long term contract, peak years, English club.

The manager asked for and got a player who turned out to be not as good as he though and not the one he wanted most imo.

I'm a rafa supporter *ducks* but I'm bewildered...

Can I just ask... if rafa didn't sign keane .... who did?

Parry? I really cant believe even ricky boy has a high enough opinion of himself that he thinks he knows more than rafa. If this is the case and someone has purchaced keane over rafas head, what other players are here because of this senario.

Rafa asked for Keane, but he was refused Barry, given the choice he'd want it the other way round, imo
