D.Boon Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 I like the guy, yes he has had a shaky start to the season but i really hope this lad makes it. He was going crazy when Gerrard scores, at least he looks like he gives a s***. Shame that shot he hit didn't fly into the top corner.
Dan Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 Did ok today but his biggest asset, his crossing, was sh*te
Nebraska Red Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 someone else said he looked thinner, he looked pacy out there today and is capable of doing a good job for us. how he does against a pacy winger is still to be known. Insua looks like our future left back as long as he is given time and a run of games.
DanielS Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 Did ok today but his biggest asset, his crossing, was sh*te Seemed like we didn't beat the first man with any crosses from either side. Its as if we're aiming for the nearest opposition shirt when crossing. Its frustrating.
gns Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 Well seeing as Everton didnt attack he had feck all to do today defensively, and he nothing offensively. Still he didnt break his leg or anything. Good day at the office.
psl Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 Did well today. We've managed to find the only Italian defender in the world who is better going forward than defending.
Ethan Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 People must have pretty low expectations for Dossena - I don't see much in him at all and his performance today was nothing incredible
gns Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 Did well today. We've managed to find the only Italian defender in the world who is better going forward than defending. add that to our collection of a striker who is better at defending than going forward and we have quite a collection forming.
mathewbet1 Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 Did ok today has got a sweet left foot. But would you trust him defensively against wigan or chelsea. Best attacking full back we have shame he cant defend. Hes a wing back.
Chili Palmer Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 Did ok today has got a sweet left foot. But would you trust him defensively against wigan or chelsea. Best attacking full back we have shame he cant defend. Hes a wing back. but thats exactly the type of full back we need at home against teams that defend. I thought he was very promising today.
gns Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 but thats exactly the type of full back we need at home against teams that defend. I thought he was very promising today. you musnt have been watching the game properly, werent on the phone were you?
Frosty Jack Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 you musnt have been watching the game properly, werent on the phone were you? You're a c***. Hi.
gns Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 You're a c***. Hi. oh cmon! it was all set-up, i couldnt resist!
Saintslfc13 Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 Thought he did well today. Didn't have much to do defensively but put in a lot of effort and did what he had to do. Offensively he was our best defender going forward and put in some better crosses than Babel certainly. Still think Insua is going to be our left back of the future. Seen him play for Argentina the other day and he was one of their best players in my opinion. Created a great chance for them as well, had it been Torres he passed it too instead of the young argie it would have been a certain goal.
Rory Fitzgerald Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 I thought he put in a serious shift today, full of effort and running - getting into good positions and providing a decent outlet. Unfortunately I think he let himself down more often than not when he got the ball. There were a couple of wayward passes and crosses. One thing I did like that he tried was when the ball was pinged out to him (high) in the 1st half and instead of taking it down, he tried to side foot it into the box. It didnt give their defence that extra 2 or 3 seconds to set themselves for the cross, unfortunately nothing came off it but its a good idea to try and get the ball in as early as possible as the strikers may have that extra bit of space.
lawrie Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 Did ok today but his biggest asset, his crossing, was sh*te if we're going to give Torres the benefit of the doubt for being rusty when he misses a sitter, its only fair we offer the same luxury to Dossena with his crossing since he hasnt played for several weeks.
kop205 Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 Inevitable that there would be a thread about him today and I suppose, after the over-top reaction to some of his s**** performances, it kind of redresses the balances a bit. He was ok, nothing more than that. Wasn't seriously tested at all but if that is the first in a string of improved performances then fair enough, it does us no harm at all if he gets on track.
allawee Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 I see more promise in him than Aurelio. I like his willingness to provide an outlet on the right. To be fair to him today he had no support or link play with Babel but still showed endavour and willingness.
Jim D Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 (edited) Did ok today Dossena, he might just get another season under Rafa to bed in and prove his £7million price tag. Edited January 25, 2009 by Jim D
Maldini Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 I see more promise in him than Aurelio. Madness
Frosty Jack Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 I see more promise in him than Aurelio. Wouldn't go that far, he doesn't provide the cohesion or distribution Aurelio offers and I don't think his delivery is anywhere near as good either. He is quicker and covers more ground, and although 7m seems expensive, I don't think it really is in todays market. He played well today, and I expect that'll be the player we see from now on.

He played well today, and I expect that'll be the player we see from now on.He never had to deal with any pacy wingers today like in the hull game (shudder). That is his major weakness. Until that gets sorted then we can start to see a more regular start from him against attacking teams.
Sion Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 He is a good player in a lot of aspects, but he has some major flaws - like against a pacey winger and his positioning - and ultimately that's why i don't think he'll make it for us.It would be interesting to see if he could play LM though
Crazy Horse Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 (edited) Can anyone tell me what formation he played in at his previous club - Udinese? He looks to me like a guy who's played well as a wing-back in a 5-3-2 but not much in a back 4. A bit like Ziege - who I knew was going to be s**** for us from day 1, because he'd looked great playing 5-3-2 at a couple of clubs but was horrific when played in a back 4 at Milan.
