Mike Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Kevin Keegan i was 6 when he left us and i didn't start going the match until a few years later.
Bigal Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 the first game I truly remember is ths 1985/86 cup final so I would say Kenny in his prime
_00_deathscar Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Pretty much anyone in their prime prior to '96. So it'd have to be King Kenny.
David Hodgson Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Dossena, Robbie Keane......spring to mind. Oh my aching sides.
smithdown Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 (edited) F*ck it then. Ian Callaghan Edited January 22, 2009 by smithdown
David Hodgson Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 F*ck it then. Ian Callaghan Too slow Joe.
muleskinner Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 My first game was a UEFA Cup 1st round tie v Hibs in 1975 (3-1 Toshack hat-trick) but I was only 6 and didn't go regularly until I was 11/12 so I would like to have seen more of that era. Roger Hunt, Peter Thompson and Billy Liddell were the 3 players from before my time who were always revered in our family, seeing those 3 would have been great.
Swipe Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Dalglish. First memory of football is him scoring against Chelsea in 86 but would have loved to see him in his prime.
Bootle Buck Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Being an Arl a*** I have seen most of the 60's, 70's and 80's stars play. However, I would have loved to have seen Billy Liddell. From all I heard he was basically a "One Man Team" back then.
johngibo YPC Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Well Kenny is the obvious oneBut i imagine going to watch the 87/88 team every week was alot of funTheyv'e got the jobs, yeah but we've got the side
kop205 Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Emlyn Hughes. I always have this idea that when he was in midfield he was possibly the closest, style-wise, we've had to Gerrard. Don't know if that is way off, but he just seems to have been that kind of all-action, lead-by-example type.
deacon Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 John Barnes in his pomp. I'm old enough to only remember when he played in the middle of the park and was a different player to the attacking midfielder he once was.
sutty Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Well Kenny is the obvious oneBut i imagine going to watch the 87/88 team every week was alot of funTheyv'e got the jobs, yeah but we've got the side That 87/88 side was great - the only thing is that I only used to watch us at home then, was too young to do the aways The start of that season there was some work being done on the ground that meant that we didn't play at home for ages - my dad was going to trhe aways and he kept coming back saying "just you wait til you see this team David, just you wait" I had no choice, did I? Was good though.
DJS Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Hughes and Souness are the immediate ones that come to mind.
Benzo-13 Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 The early 80's team of Dalglish/Rush/Souness. I was only a nipper when they were in their pomp.
Earl Hafler Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Hughes, Keegan and Liddell Of players from other clubs, i'd always wanted us to sign Gary Mac back when Uncle Roy was selecting Don ' Budweiser ' Hutchison. Schmeichel and Shearer were two others.
MarkD Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 I started going the game in 73-74, so since then probably seen the majority of the greats (and not so great) on a regular basis. As a slightly different answer, I wish I'd have savoured the Dalglish/Souness/Rush/Hansen team a bit more. I went the games and saw them play and they were invincible but that made me think they would be invincible and around forever and I think I became blase about it all. Really regret that to be honest.
stonty Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Roger Hunt, I was only a kid & far too young to really appreciate what I was looking at, but my old fella says he was a hell of a player
New York Red Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Christ, I always forget what a bunch of nippers you all are...
anfield11 Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Emlyn Hughes. I always have this idea that when he was in midfield he was possibly the closest, style-wise, we've had to Gerrard. madaboutlfc Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 my grand dad used to tell me stories of Billy Liddell when I was younger and made him sound perfect so id like to have seen him
Cunny Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 (edited) All our pre-1970s greats - Scott, Liddell, Yeats, Lawler, Byrne, Hunt, Thompson, St John, Lawrence, Stubbins etc.. As for non-Liverpool players: Pele, Cruyff, Puskas, Yashin, Di Stefano, Finney, Matthews, Moore, Greaves, Charles, Best, Law, Dean, Charlton, Edwards - I would just want to see how good these players really were, as TV coverage of them is scarce. Edited January 22, 2009 by Cunny

I saw all the reds apart from Stubbins and Liddell. Saw Moore, Greaves and Charlton, Moore was the best defender I ever saw bar none. Edited January 22, 2009 by Murphman
badtodabone Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 being an old a*** as well it would have to be liddell, my dad idolised him
