would have preferred a sale. Not sure if we'll get any money for him now, but I guess better that someone else is paying the wages...

should get 500k or so for the loan i would imagine

mail says pompey agreed terms with us - so I assume thats his wages, not being able to play against us, and maybe a loan fee

there was talk of making Pennant sign a 1 year extension before going on loan but I bet we didn't do that

Be interesting to see who replaces him in our CL squad, given he was 1 of our 8 locally trained players

Hammill? although Sky Sports said the other day they "understand" we are planning to send him out on loan

Whatever he did to annoy Rafa it must have been right off the scale - personally I'd have preferred to keep him and actually play him now and then

Still think he could have done a job. Even in the few games he played this season, his crossing from the right is much better than Kuyt.

Stating the obvious, but his exit from Liverpool was nothing to do with his football ability, but off the field activties.

Couple of years ago, I used to think that Rafa had a slight 'man mangement' weakness

My doubts are creeping back!

That statement is nothing like obvious. His exit from Liverpool has everything to do with his footballing ability.

Many on this forum early last season when he was playing regulalry and following his 06/07 season, were calling for his inclusion in the England squad ahead of Lenon who was on fire then. Surely that's reasonable proof that he has the skills, but sadly no brain, application or dedication, which is what I was implying.

I'm far from his biggest fan and I'm glad he's gone but I was last night I was thinking "I wish he was on the bench; this is exactly the kind of game for him."

Can't say I agree with your definition of what constitutes on and off-field activities, but never mind. If Pennant had contributed on the pitch, his off-field shenanigans would have been swept under the carpet, you can be sure of that. It's the fact he's been ineffective on the pitch that means he's off.

As an aside, just checked some stats. In his 10 or so years as a professional footballer he's scored 13 goals. How rubbish is that?

On 23 January 2005, Pennant was arrested and charged with drink-driving after crashing his Mercedes into a lamp-post in Aylesbury, while serving a sixteen month driving ban and uninsured. Upon being arrested, Pennant initially gave his name as that of Arsenal teammate Ashley Cole. Pennant pleaded guilty to drink-driving and driving whilst disqualified, and he was sentenced to ninety days in prison on 1 March. He was released on parole after 30 days and immediately returned to playing for Birmingham, although he had to wear an electronic tag at all times, including while on the pitch.

nice...
