CHRed Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 But why or why does he give away so much free kicks. His first contribution was challenging for a ball where he was not favorite which led to the passage of play for the equalizer! aaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh
chrisbonnie Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 i think he`s s*** but i wouldnt blame him for the goal today proves, why i think we`ll never win the league under Rafa,. instead of killing the game off when we had the bit between our teeth, we sit back, and he then takes off our only true striker and puts on a championship level midfielder in his place, negative tactics

Chili Palmer Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 Picking up the pace of the derby must be tough. a few more important problems than Lucas giving away a few fouls
lfc003 Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 i understand taking Torres off but why Lucas and not Babel??
Sion Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 if you're gonna blame anyone blame the shambolic defending, both Benayouns tackle and the marking for the set piece
MFletcher Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 Because we intended to close the game down and Lucas has played that role many times, successively, this season. He can't be blamed for conceding the goal - open your bleeding eyes to the realities of it.

He can't be blamed for conceding the goal - open your bleeding eyes to the realities of it. but how often do you see it in games when managers bring defenders on for attacking players that they then go on to concede, its a crap tactic, if you`re dominating, keep dominating, its simple, and thats the difference between us and the mancs, their not actually better, man for man, they just kill teams off, while we sit back, we can deny it all we want, but its fact, im pass the point of flipping out, with Rafa in charge, its always going to be the same

I think Rafa thinks that a win is 2 points rather then 3.
Jim D Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 I feel sorry for Lucas, past few times he has come off the bench he has come into a game where we haven't been playing well as a team. The lad is still very young and throwing him into the deep end where the game is awkward I feel it is unfair to criticise him when you see more senior players around him not performing. His substitution appears pre-determined, Rafa will bring him on the 85th minute mark regardless of what the scoreline is or how we are playing.
stonty Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 Sorry I miss read, was gonna join in I thought it said "hate him"

He is a big disappointment in conceding cheaply those dangerous free kicks. Why does he give away so many unwarranted free kicks in his rash challeges? He is the main reason we dropped points.
Saintslfc13 Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Spot on. His substition cost us the game. He is a big disappointment in conceding cheaply those dangerous free kicks. Why does he give away so many unwarranted free kicks in his rash challeges? He is the main reason we dropped points. His substitution hardly cost us the game. What cost us the game was a sh*t attempt at a tackle from Benayoun and poor defending on the following free kick. Nevermind our missed chances from earlier. The foul was far before the one that ultimately led to their equaliser. Imo we f*cked up bringing on Yossi in the first place, it should have been Babel or even Lucas at that point. Babel to make something happen himself and provide Torres with a slightly more willing partner, or Lucas to help move the ball through the midfield.

Murphman Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 But why or why does he give away so much free kicks. His first contribution was challenging for a ball where he was not favorite which led to the passage of play for the equalizer! aaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh AND in the second minute of injury time he closed the defender down on the corner of their box and my lad shouted out 'here comes a free kick'. Leaves a foot in and finishes the game off with a free kick for the bluesh*te.. It was indescrinbably f*cking brainless.

I think I'd have brought Arbeloa on for Skrtel, and pushed Jamie into the middle. Thus giving us width and another outlet going forwards, which Jamie rarely was. Anyway, whether it was tactical (Rafa) or otherwise, 20 minutes out to kill that game while not passing the ball at all well was, er, suicide.
Alonso Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Funny how after the Arsenal game people were praising him for commiting fouls as it broke up Arsenal's play.

Hassony Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Wow, we probably had the worst performance of the season from all the midfielders who started the game (Xabi, Gerrard, Reira and Kuyt) and Lucas is getting the blame despite being only there for 2 minutes!

Did we f*ck, this was a milion times better than the Stoke game and Everton are no pushovers. Nobody's blaming Lucas but he came on to keep the ball, he gave two free kicks away out of nothing, the first before he even touched the ball. The poor performers last night were Keane, Kuyt, Skrtel and Sami, Gerrard, Riera and Xabi did OK.

The poor performers last night were Keane, Kuyt, Skrtel and Sami, Gerrard, Riera and Xabi did OK. Gerrard was invisible apart from the goal, Reira was very poor and Xabi, although he got stuck in, his passing game was a bit off The Ref blew his whistle every 30 seconds for a foul, I just find it strange that there is a thread about a player who was on for two minutes and gave two (debatable) free kicks in the opposition's penalty area!

In the scheme things Lucas coming on didn't affect the match. But in two minutes he showed why people get pissed off with him, it wasn't his fault the result of course an we don't need a thread. But him and Keane make me angry, they frustrate the life out of me with the things they do and I like to think I'm pretty fair and always take the view Rafa has forgotten more than we know etc...
matty Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 I just can't understand why he brought Lucas on when Mascherano was on the bench. The correct substitution was Keane off, Masch on, Gerrard slightly forward. We stopped playing after our goal. shiute.
Kite Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 (edited) The Ref blew his whistle every 30 seconds for a foul, ...This was exactly the reason to not bring on Lucas - Lucas is the focus of the blame but it's really Rafa by proxy, it was a stupid idea to bring on a player like Lucas at that time, it turned the direction of the match. We needed some composure and we needed somewhere to pass the ball to. Rafa took off the player to aim the ball to and brought on an exuberant lad who for some reason still hasn't copped on that barging into the back of players is not actual a tackle and is not allowed. His introduction was negative on all fronts. Edited January 20, 2009 by Mr Kite
