Malcolm X Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 Mine was to be putting up a real challenge for the title, which we are. And in the process we have moved ahead of Chelsea and Arsenal. That in my view is progress and has exceeded my expectations. When Rafa took over we were miles behind the other Big 3. Now we've overtaken those two. Its only a matter of time before we overtake Scum. I think the fact that Scum will equal our league title is getting to people and is possibly clouding their judgement which becomes evident after every bad result. Not me, not by a long mile. F*ck them if they match our league haul. We'll get it back. Regardless of how this season ends, I am chuffed with Rafa. This is the season where he has made his stand. He's got us to the top of the table, moved ahead of Arsenal and Chelsea. This is the season where Rafa stood up to Ginsoak and gave as good as he got. Let the press and sundry doubt us, f*ck em. We'll prove them wrong, i'm sure of that.
Gunga Din Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 i wanted a title challenge, we are in one. doesnt stop me getting frustrated with results like yesterday. i didnt think we would win it at the start of the season, i dont think we'll win it now. we will need to have a season as realistic challengers before i think we can go and win the thing
stressederic Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 I was expecting a title challenge. I remember a few of us at the start of last season saying on here that we didn't think last season would see us really move on but that the next season (this season) would see us put together a real challenge.
Barnesy_10 Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 (edited) my expectations were to be in the title race past the half way mark and get into the top 3. We have superceded my expectations, but that doesn't mean I should be grateful with where we are and wait till next season.. What has frustrated me most this season is the amount of missed opportunities. Yeah we have taken three points at tough aways, or at games we would have come away with one point at last season. But our home form has been inecusable this season.. The Mancs hit a real stale patch and Chelsea have looked weaker than ever since Abramovich took over. Taking 3 points away at Chelsea, beating the Mancs at Anfield and then to draw at home to Stoke, Hull and Fulham just doesn't add up. I guess it sounds spoilt. But at the end of the season its those home games we will look back on and think if only Gerrards goal against Stoke had rightly been counted, or Jamies own goals etc (not putting any blame on him whatsoever).I am worried that this is our biggest chance to go for it, and this weekend that Mancs took the driving seat as far as I am concerned, yeah two games in hand, but they have played Chelsea at home and they are going to play us at home too.. This just seems like a massive opportunity to go for it, and I am not sure how many more dropped points we can afford to lose when the Mancs are looking so strong. cymrococh Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 I didn't have any expectations. I hoped we would improve on last year and I really hope we win a trophy. I like trophies.
SkippyjonJones Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 I expected to drink a lot. I'm on target so far. nobody has a right to expect us to win the league. I want to see us challenging til the end and we are in great position so far. maybe we could have picked up more points than we have if we'd been a bit more adventurous. maybe we'd have dropped a few more if we'd been a bit more adventurous. its a frustrating game for all of us that would be better than Rafa if we;d been given the job......
New York Red Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 I was expecting to win: Premier League Champions league And to start to build our new stadium.
Stevie H Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 i expected us to do better in the league than last season, and we are doing. also expected us to have a run in europe, which we are doing. did anyone really, honestly expect us to win the league? and if so, that there wouldn't be some appalling frustration and maddening ups and downs along the way?
quibs Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 I guess like most on here i wanted us to challenge at beginning of the season and we are. We are still in Champions league and always have a chance to win that. As long we there challenging till last game of the season i will be happy. We have dropped points like last season so silly teams at home. We not losing which is a bonus. The league this year seems much tougher and the 'big four' are all dropping points and will continue to drop points till end of the season.

Ramón Benítez Hernández Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 did anyone really, honestly expect us to win the league? and if so, that there wouldn't be some appalling frustration and maddening ups and downs along the way? That sums it up for me. I expected to be up there challenging at least, which we are. We are top, only just but I doubt anyone would have expected us to be walking it.
Stevie H Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 I did. I really did.honestly? you're not all there then.
floyd the barber Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 be within 5 points of whoever was top.....i didnt honestly expect us to be leading the race. My top 4 prediction was..1 mancs2. us3 chelsea4. a***.
New York Red Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 honestly? you're not all there then. I've been accused of that before. But yes, honestly. I really thought we had the squad and I still do.
Roscoe Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 expected nothing but hoped for improvement and a challenge. 7 points better off than at the same point last season is an improvement but when you consider the paucity of some of the performances that have led to 0-0 draws against at best average opposition it is hard not to feel disappointed and to think that we have let a really great opportunity slip. Do people think this season already constitutes a title challenge? I'm not so sure yet. we could still be pretty much out out of it by the end of february the way mutd are going.
Jarg Armani Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 I was expecting to win: Premier League Champions league And to start to build our new stadium. Hahaha! Jesus, thought you were being serious until i read the last bit.
Rimbeux Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 So the message is 'it's better than we thought it was going to be so dont worry too much if we dont grasp the opportunity and it's only really because we're worried about 18-17' Sorry do not agree. Things have fallen our way, we have and have had a chance to really take this title with both hands with issues at Chelsea and Arsenal, and United not being in stellar form. Will it happen again next year? You have to doubt it, so we'd have to significantly step it up in future. The time is now, it really is now.

fred milne Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 My expectations are this season will go the same way as 96-7 season when we top of the table at this time of year but repeatedly missed opportunities to put distance between ourselves and the chasing pack. In the run-in, Utd swept past us with ease.
Knoxy Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 I'd have taken where we are now at the start of the season. But very annoyed at Saturday's performance
Tosh Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 To get more than 2 points against a recently promoted side
Malcolm X Posted January 12, 2009 Author Posted January 12, 2009 To get more than 2 points against a recently promoted side Thats pathetic. Really pathetic.
Hassony Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 Thats pathetic. Really pathetic. we got 3 points against WBA for starters
Molby Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 I expected us to win the league cup feel like a total c*** now
Benzo-13 Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 Just to compete with the best and at the top.I firmly believe now we can win the title though.
