D.Boon Posted January 10, 2009 Posted January 10, 2009 One £20 million balls up. Great condition, hardly used. This looks more and more like Rafas biggest mistake with each passing week. Can someone explain it to me?
Internationinteroperability Posted January 10, 2009 Posted January 10, 2009 Maybe he isn't happy with Keane's attitude?
alias75 Posted January 10, 2009 Posted January 10, 2009 I think the curious bit is hes starting to play much better but thats twice hes been left on the bench when we've been 0-0 and seeing plenty of the play. Im sure Rafa has his reasons why hes hasn't put him on twice when we needed a goal but it doesn't make much sense to me. We have a player in Steven Gerrard thats capable of playing box to box in those games when teams aren't looking to attack much what do we lose by playing Gerrard in a more traditional midfield position and having another forward on there? Its pretty confusing because hes started games and looked good lately, unless hes unwell or carrying a slight knock i don't understand the logic of leaving him on the bench when we need a goal. (and if thats the case why put him on the bench at all?)

Raj Posted January 10, 2009 Posted January 10, 2009 Finds form then is dropped. You decide. Kuyt can have 5 poor games in a row but retain his selection. To be fair, when Keane was playing s***, you said that that he should be playing.
Cam Posted January 10, 2009 Posted January 10, 2009 In all fairness... Keane may play the next 20 games and score 15 goals. Or he may play in the next 20, score 0 and we'll all be glad to be rid. We don't know what will happen. BUT at the moment all fingers must be pointed at Rafa. It's the kind of mistake that should have the board looking at his future. Whether it's a £20m mistake or whether he was intended to be a £20m little-used luxury... it's a major feck-up and a "cash-strapped" organisation cannot take hits like that (particularly after similar mistakes with Crouch & Bellamy).

Duncan Disorderly Posted January 10, 2009 Posted January 10, 2009 The mistake was signing a "footballer" like Lucas!
Paddy 66 Posted January 10, 2009 Posted January 10, 2009 The biggest mistake was having f*** wits who post on this site, stop acting like t***s.
Ramón Benítez Hernández Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 The biggest mistake was having f*** wits who post on this site, stop acting like t***s. You are not playing mind games, you are stating facts.
Michael Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Maybe Rafa wants Keane to request a transfer so that we do not have to pay up his contract?
Euphrates Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 I would like to preface my comment with this: "Rafa is my choice for manager, I support him and normally agree with most of what he says and does." Robbie Keane was a mistake. It disturbs the partnership that developed last season between Torres and Gerrard. I said this to friends at the the time of the signing. I thought what Rafa was thinking might be made clear at a later date. You know, maybe Gerrard would be played at right mid with Keane behind Torres, or something else which shoehorned the new expensive signing in there. Now, I think Keane wasn't a Rafa signing, if that isn't the case, I'm severely worried.
Magic8Ball Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Maybe he isn't happy with Keane's attitude? maybe he isn't happy with Keane's contribution ?

We have very little money, we splashed £20 million on Keane. He isnt being played. At this point unless you can enlighten me it looks a right f*** up by someone at the club. MFletcher Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Keane demonstrated at Spurs, over a period of five years, that he was a very, very good player indeed. You don't score 100+ goals over five years if you're not very good. I have no idea why he's suddenly finding it difficult to make a clean connection with the ball, but he'll have to get it sorted or he's going to be shipped out. The scuffed shots and bottling of even taking a shot against Preston drove me, and I suspect Rafa, up the wall.
Chili Palmer Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 I can't see how its anyone other than Benitez? yep, its down to Rafa but it must be noted, for every keane theres a Torres, for every Dossena theres a Agger, for every Gonzales theres a Riera
psl Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Bit worried about Agger now. Was he on the bench yesterday or not included at all? Hopefully he has a minor knock as its not going to help the contract negotiations if he's dropped as soon as Skrtel is ready.

Walrus Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 I wonder if there is a clause of some sort in the transfer contract, which triggers an additional payment to Spurs when he has a played a certain amount of league games for us. I don't think he has come on in any of the games he has started on the bench in any case.
