Rua Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 Ins Hangeland - Anfield boss Rafa Benitez has made enquiries about the 6ft 5in Norway captain (People)Glen Johnson - Liverpool are closing in on Portsmouth fullback Glen Johnson - (Daily Mail) OutsPennant - Wigan Athletic and Hull City are interested in signing the former Arsenal and Birmingham City player. (The Times) It's about time someone started one of these, I was begining to think that there was some unwritten rule going around the Liverpool forums, normally every forum would be buzzing with the transfer speculation threads. * remember, I'm just copying and pasting what's in the press or on websites, I am not responsible for the news (or unsubstantiated rumour)
Benitez Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 Heskey is likely to rejoin his former club Liverpool for £4m. (The Independent) that's Wigan paying Liverpool right?
Rahul Posted January 1, 2009 Author Posted January 1, 2009 that's Wigan paying Liverpool right? Lol, I'd hope so. Wouldn't want any other deal.
Benitez Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 just seems a lot for such a player! Heskey doesn't have long left on his contract I seem to remember.
Sion Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 Hangeland - Anfield boss Rafa Benitez has made enquiries about the 6ft 5in Norway captain (People) Very good player, pretty much the main reason why Fulham have conceeded so few this year. Would be a great asset

live Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 Do we need another CB right now though? Agger's future with the club is far from sorted
psl Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 Sky have a reporter outside Manchester City just waiting for the first big transfer. Slow news day I guess. They just spoke to Mark Hughes and asked him if he was excited about the January transfer window to whch he replied 'not as excited as Sky Sports News'.
Red Yoda Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 Do we need another CB right now though? the reason we are being so heavily linked with him is that agger is trying to get the best possible contract out of liverpool and is using milan's interest to try and put pressure on so that he can get more money.................. liverpool are on the other hand showing agger ok , np if you go to milan because you want to try and force more money out of us , then we have already targeted a replacement who we can and will go and get . its about the big picture , not just about us buying ANOTHER centre back .
Sion Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 Do we need another CB right now though?we will once hyypia leaves in the near future
_00_deathscar Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 Agger's future with the club is far from sorted Sort it out then, and pronto.

Bjarkinn Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 (edited) Icelandic's biggest paper reports that we have bought Gudlaugur Victor Palsson from AGF in Denmark. He is 17 year old from Iceland, he trained with the team on two occasions and rafa has wanted him ever since Edited January 1, 2009 by Bjarkinn
Frosty Jack Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 We haven't signed any recognized names today, Rafas stubborn streak is really becoming a problem.
David Hodgson Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 We haven't signed any recognized names today, Rafas stubborn streak is really becoming a problem. It's a bit of a relief to going into one of these windows without there being pressure to sign anyone. In the past they've always seemingly counted for so much. The pattern on the forums would be half the posters worrying about lack of developments and the other half telling them not to be crazy because there was still 'x' number of days left. Generally I'd say that the worriers tended to be vindicated, as a window would close with only a defender added. I'm taking any potential first teamer as a bonus, rather than a 'must have', this window.
Toni Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 RLINKafa says signings are unlikelyPublished by tom1892 on January 1, 2009 Rafael Benitez doesn’t think he will be signing anyone in the mid season transfer window as it may be too expensive and unnecessary. The Liverpool manager who is recovering from two minor operations reveals that there won’t be any new signing in January. “It will be difficult to bring anyone in January because we have a good squad. “To bring in anyone better than what we’ve got isn’t easy and could be expensive,” Benitez as quoted on BBC Sport. The Spaniard has said he wont be buying anyone but their are still strong rumours of former Liverpool striker Emile Heskey making a return to Anfield. Another rumour surrounding Anfield is that out-of-favour defender Andrea Dossena could be on his way back to Italy after just half a season with the Merseyside club.
MFletcher Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 Reads like a typical Rafa comment to me i.e. tell the press absolutely nothing and let them twist it if they want.
Rahul Posted January 1, 2009 Author Posted January 1, 2009 (edited) http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/t...ity/7806466.stm Hull boss admits Pennant interest Hull City have joined the chase to sign Liverpool winger Jermaine Pennant. The 25-year-old has been linked with a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid, while Wigan, Tottenham and Stoke are also believed to be interested. Hull manager Phil Brown said: "I would be very interested in Jermaine Pennant if he was available at the right price. We will be making enquiries." With the Tigers suffering a dip in form in recent weeks, Brown is looking to strengthen his squad during January. Hull have also been linked with Wigan midfielder Michael Brown but the Tigers' boss has denied making an approach. He said: "We have got a number of irons in the fire, but just because the transfer window opens, doesn't mean to say everyone jumps into business straight away. "A lot of these windows start with the big boys, and once they start to do their dealings everyone else follows suit. We have got certain targets earmarked." Edited January 1, 2009 by Raz
Magic8Ball Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 Selling: Dossena, Pennant, etc now would be an excellent piece of business, if only for the reason that the money would be there for the Summer and Rafa could buy immediately
kenny7 Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 Selling: Dossena, Pennant, etc now would be an excellent piece of business, if only for the reason that the money would be there for the Summer and Rafa could buy immediately With a lot of luck both on and off the pitch, come the summer Rafa will have a sensible amount to spend and maintain our improvement
Paisley Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 With a lot of luck both on and off the pitch, come the summer Rafa will have a sensible amount to spend and maintain our improvement It's very frustrating that after Moores finally sold up in order for us to get the investment we needed to 'compete', that we still have to fund transfers from selling players or through success on the pitch. That is if that money isn't being used to service the debt or to help someone own us as a commodity like 'Weetabix'. I guess that is a different thread, but thank the Lord we have Rafa.
