Swagger Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 (edited) I'd go with the same team that started against Bolton. Mascherano will probably start though, at the expense of Benayoun. Edited December 27, 2008 by Swagger
alias75 Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 Newcastle are missing a lot of players with just a 1 day turnaround i think theres a strong argument for changing a few and having fresh players for this one could be a big advantage. Id be tempted to play Mascherano, Lucas, Babel and maybe even Darby (resting Hyppia) for this one. .................................Reina................................... Darby...............Carragher....Agger.................Insua .......................Mascherano..Lucas / Alonso.......... Kuyt.............................Gerrard................Babel / Riera ....................................Keane.......................... Of course a lot depends on how well some players feel after the Bolton game, we were lucky in that it was quite an easy game for us after an hour or so so maybe we won't need to rest as many as usual with just 1 days rest. But having the luxury of being able to bring in some fresh players that are also very good could be worth taking the risk. Maybe Hyppia will be rested because the pace of Martins could be their biggest threat, although given the lack of options at right back maybe not.
Swagger Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 Start with the same eleven I tell you. They can rest after the game, what with almost 2 weeks before the next Premiership game.

Well, that's a good team, if you leave Lucas a million miles away from it. Personally, I'd like to see us give that new kid, Torres, a chance. we'll never know how good he is unless we unleash him.
Nerik Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 www.teamtalk.com Carroll set for Liverpool chance Andrew Carroll is likely to partner Michael Owen up front against Liverpool with Newcastle boss Joe Kinnear reeling from a string of injuries. Jose Enrique is out after damaging a calf in the warm-up against Wigan as is Mark Viduka who has a torn groin muscle. Habib Beye was also a casualty at the JJB Stadium while defender Sebastien Bassong is suspended. David Edgar and Charles N'Zogbia are likely to be used in a makeshift defence and striker Shola Ameobi could return after a groin injury on Sunday. Kick-off 12pm. Newcastle (from): Given, Coloccini, Gutierrez, Butt, Guthrie, N'Zogbia, Duff, Owen, Harper, Taylor, Geremi, Edgar, Xisco, Carroll, Ameobi, LuaLua, Gonzalez.
Swipe Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 Carroll - is that the one that was diving about in their game yesterday?
McBain Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 I'll be livid if we dont beat these Expecting Masch in for Keane with Dirk ploughing a lone furrow up top
anny road Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 no way will Keane be dropped Reina, Carra, Sami, Agger, Insua, Alonso, Mascherano, Gerrard, Kuyt, Riera, Keane 4-5-1 with Gerrard breaking off Keane

stressederic Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 Now I'm sure the following statements are not representative of the views of all Newcastle fans, nonetheless I feel they should be brought to our attention. Those of a nervous disposition look away now... » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «They are due a bad result, they carnt keep being lucky every match. Likewise we are due some luck, and a good result. Besides would the following players get in our team Reina - 50/50 with GivenThat Insua defender - never heard of him until 2 weeks ago.Lucas - No, no one rates himKeane - not in front of martins and owen no.Benayoun - Useless.Rieria - was crap at man city, no better for the scousersKuyt - wouldnt get near our first 11 That leaves the diver, Alonso, that masherno who wasnt good enough for west ham, agger, and carragher. Take the diver and torres (who is injured and over rated) out of there team, and there isnt much diffrence between us and them 2-1 to us ill go for.

Rory Fitzgerald Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 Torres is in the squad apparently; http://www.liverpooldailypost.co.uk/liverp...64375-22559176/ Javier Mascherano expected to start for Liverpool against NewcastleDec 27 2008 Javier Mascherano is expected to return to the starting line-up for Liverpool at Newcastle tomorrow, having been an unused substitute for the Boxing Day win over Bolton. Liverpool played 4-4-2 with Steven Gerrard in a central midfield role for that game, but it is likely their captain will revert to the support striker role at St.James’ Park. They will still be without full-back Alvaro Arbeloa, who has a hamstring injury while Fernando Torres could return as a substitute. Liverpool provisional squad: Reina, Carragher, Agger, Hyypia, Insua, Alonso, Mascherano, Kuyt, Gerrard, Keane, Cavalieri, Darby, Babel, Benayoun, Lucas, Ngog, El Zhar, Torres.

Sion Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 That newcastle fan post reminds me of that Alan Oliver article about Milner It’s not that long ago that Liverpool were trailing in the wake of a Sir Bobby Robson-inspired United, and the feeling at St James’s Park is that the Anfield club have a nerve to offer three players who are presumably surplus to requirements for Milner. and TB's brilliant reply A NORTH east journalist recently slammed Liverpool for offering "non-entities" in a proposed swap deal for Newcastle's James Milner. The "non-entities" in question were Emiliano Insua and Jack Hobbs, while Danny Guthrie was described as being "so insignificant" that the journalist's St James' Park source "could not even recall his name". Guthrie has since completed his move to Newcastle of course and it will be interesting to see how the "insignificant" £2.5m signing will handle his first meeting with that particular journalist. And the less said about the line about it being "not so long ago that Liverpool were trailing in the wake of a Sir Bobby Robson inspired Newcastle," the better, except to point out that since the Magpies won their last trophy of any significance back in 1969 Liverpool have won 35. Trailing in someone else's wake has rarely been so attractive. They're all loopy, one of the most deluded in the land, along with Spurs. Not winning anything major in a long time must do that to fans of (so-called) big clubs.
