Looks like things are already starting early so may as well kick it off...

Spurs open Bellamy talks

Hammers striker emerges as a January target for Redknapp

Last updated: 24th December 2008

Sky Sports News understands Tottenham Hotspur are in talks with West Ham United over a deal for Craig Bellamy.

The financial uncertainty at Upton Park has led to speculation that Hammers boss Gianfranco Zola may be forced into selling his best players.

Zola outlined his determination to keep his leading figures earlier this week and admitted he would be 'very annoyed' if he did lose any members of his squad.

Bellamy has also spoken of his happiness at West Ham recently after he was linked with a return to Celtic where he previously spent a spell on loan.

However, he admitted he was unsure if the Hammers would accept any bids, and Sky Sports News understands that Spurs are now trying to test their London rivals' resolve.

Negotiations between the two clubs are understood to have started, with West Ham keen to recoup almost double the £7.5million they paid for Bellamy 18 months ago.

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has admitted he is hoping to improve his squad in the New Year, but insists he will not pay 'crazy prices' for new players.

Redknapp is short of attacking options at White Hart Lane, with Darren Bent, Roman Pavlyuchenko and the on-loan Fraizer Campbell the only recognised strikers available.

Bellamy has returned to fitness with West Ham this season and has scored twice in the Premier League, including in the recent 1-1 draw at title-chasing Chelsea.

Toure leaving would mean that in 5yrs the whole 1st team and most of the 03/04 squad would have been dismantled. It would just leave Clichy there who was not 1st team at the team.

Man City close in on Bridge

Manchester City are in talks with Chelsea over a deal for Wayne Bridge, Sky Sports News sources understand.

Mark Hughes is known to be a long-term admirer of the England international left-back and is expected to spend heavily in the January transfer window.

City are keen to improve their squad defensively, with the club's backline having failed to convince over the course of a season that has seen them concede 30 league goals to date.

In an exclusive interview with Sky Sports News earlier on Thursday, Hughes confirmed he was hopeful of bringing in new players sooner rather than later.

It is expected Hughes will return to former club Blackburn in a bid to land Roque Santa Cruz, but it is the Bridge deal that looks closer to completion.

Bridge is well regarded at Stamford Bridge but has almost always had to play second fiddle to Ashley Cole, since the left-back's move to the club from Arsenal in 2006.

Backed by the Abu Dhabi United Group it is expected City will be by far the biggest spenders in the transfer window.

always thought the cash-hungry welsh dwarf would do quite well in serie a where chances are at a premium. he'd probably get on very well with mourinho too, self-serving mercenary tw*ts that the pair are.

Apparently the deal is expected to cost £12 million.

Not that they're throwing their money around or anything like that.

That's silly money. They could have had Dossena for half that.

Agree that its admirable of Hughes that he is unwilling to pay excessive fees ...

Kinnear needs better communication with his players, just a matter of hours after saying Given is happy to stay, Given practically says he wants to leave as he's sick of being in a relegation battle and the whole Newcastle mess

Will certainly add to Newcastle's troubles, but i don't think he's as irreplaceable as they might think, it's the defence that's the problem in that team, any GK would fare the same.

Entire West ham squad for sale.

http://edition.cnn.com/2009/SPORT/football...?iref=hpmostpop

The transfer window opened on Thursday with West Ham chief executive Scott Duxbury admitting that the Premier League club are open to offers for every member of their squad.

West Ham manager Gianfranco Zola will be hoping he can hold on to his top stars.

West Ham manager Gianfranco Zola will be hoping he can hold on to his top stars.

The Hammers picked up two wins over the Christmas period to move into the top half of the table, but doubts remain over their financial health with Icelandic owner Bjorogolfur Gudmundsson suffering major losses due to the global economic crisis.

West Ham are also facing the prospect of a massive compensation payment to Sheffield United over the Carlos Tevez affair, leaving new manager Gianfranco Zola with a struggle to hold on to all his top players.

Striker Craig Bellamy has already attracted public interest from Tottenham Hotspur while goalkeeper Robert Green, central defender Matthew Upson and midfielder Scott Parker are being linked with a move away from Upton Park.

Duxbury told the club's offficial Web site that Zola would have final say on any departures.

"We must not be afraid of interest in or bids for our leading players," Duxbury said.

"Each approach will be considered in terms of fee, fitness, form and where the manager thinks the player is in his career.

"We have to consider the will of the player and whether he is committed to what we are trying to achieve.

"A bid may be evaluated by the manager as allowing him to significantly improve his team."

Duxbury claimed that former Italy star Zola wanted a slimmer first team squad based on "quality over quantity"

Meanwile, fellow Premier League side Portsmouth have said that former Arsenal star Lauren and Richard Duffy can leave in January.

Pompey are another side rumored to be in financial difficulties, but chief executive Peter Storrie told the Portsmouth News that the club were looking to bring in "two or three during the transfer window to improve the squad."

"I never talk about money but Tony (Adams) will be given the means if he wants to strengthen the squad," he added.

Portsmouth pulled in nearly $30 million with the sale of Lassana Diarra to Real Madrid, but striker Jermain Defoe is another being linked with a move, his former club Tottenham the leading suitors.

Manchester City are expected to be the biggest spenders in the transfer window as the Premier League club's Abu Dhabi paymasters flex their financial muscle.

Brazilian star Robinho was signed from Real Madrid in the last day of the summer window just after the new owners took control and manager Mark Hughes is keen to strengthen his squad.

Premier League clubs shelled out over $200 million in the last January transfer window, but it is unclear if this will be surpassed this year as the global downturn bites, coupled with a strong euro.

'Manchester United have completed the signings of Serbian pair Zoran Tosic and Adem Ljajic from Partizan Belgrade. Left-winger Tosic and midfielder Ljajic arrive at Old Trafford for an undisclosed fee although reports claim a combined figure of £16.3m.'

16 million total for a 17 and a 21 year old?!

'Twas 17 million each for Anderson and Nani too wasnt it? And 30 million for Berbatov.

Its an absolute shame that everytime a 'pundit' mentions Keane, the the 20 million figure gets branded about everytime but these c**** are just let off.
