richwilks Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 I've heard some good reports of Leto at Olympiacos this season. Anyone seen any games he's been involved in? I saw a clip of him on the weekend scoring a cracker, running from inside his own half and finishing froma tight angle. Rafa seems to rate him highly and is often talking about him as a first team squad player but I've never really seen him perform in the first team. The clips I've seen of him in Greece though look really promising.
stressederic Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 he will never play for liverpool again Sounds a bit ominous when you put it like that.
Hassony Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 Sounds a bit ominous when you put it like that. For a start he will struggle to get a work permit, considering he is unlikly to make enough starts for his national team
richwilks Posted December 22, 2008 Author Posted December 22, 2008 For a start he will struggle to get a work permit, considering he is unlikly to make enough starts for his national team He does seem to struggle on every application and I know Rafa was staggered that he didn't get one last time. I suppose Olympiacos could be being used as a shop window.
The Hitman Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 Rafa was staggered that Gonzalez couldn't get one! What a load of fuss over nothing.
Swagger Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 he will never play for liverpool again Didn't know you were part of Rafa's staff, Hassony. Perhaps you meant to write "I cannot see him playing for us again" ...
pawlu Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 He scored a great goal yesterday. There's a video here.

Stevie H Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 greek league may be about the right pace for him. he looked slow as f*** whenever he turned out for us.
Hightown Phil Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 Seen bits and pieces of him and he's looked alright.
richwilks Posted December 22, 2008 Author Posted December 22, 2008 greek league may be about the right pace for him. he looked slow as f*** whenever he turned out for us. Looked quick on his goal on the weekend, unless he was racing a snail. Pissed past the defender like he wasn't there.
Zoob Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 He scored a great goal yesterday. There's a video here. Decent goal, but the description says "he picked the ball from his own half and ran past the whole defence before firing home."In reality, this is the kind of goal you see in weak leagues, where a player can pick the ball up in his own half any only 1 player bothered trying to get anywhere near him. It's not like he used great skill to go past the defence. The entire team just stood around and let him run all the way into the box.

Raybouldsrightpeg Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 That goal wouldn't happen in the premier league.
Nerik Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 He would have been scythed down just like the Arsenal defence did to Giggs in the 1999 semi. They would have never backed off and allowed him to shoot at goal.
carrafan Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 In a way i'm happy to see him play for a proper team in Olympiacos. If he had got his work permit, he would still have mainly been a part of the reserve setup than the first team. This first team exposure would help him progress more than our reserves..this isnt the first time he's scored a great goal for Olympiacos either, he's had a couple of other scorchers for them. Hopefully he can fight his way into a squad spot next season, else we'll just make a small profit on him.

Zoob Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 Or Walcott last season - I know that was the CL, but two PL teams were on the pitch. Walcott was fresh on the pitch and is super fast anyway. At least our players were trying to get to him to tackle him. For Leto's goal - very good finish as it was - only 1 player made any effort to do anything, and it was a poor effort. Giggs' goal - much as I hate to admit it - was full of skill.
lfc4eva99 Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 lol, the lengths to which people would go to disregard a good moment by a player they dont seem to rate is just hilarious....
richwilks Posted December 23, 2008 Author Posted December 23, 2008 lol, the lengths to which people would go to disregard a good moment by a player they dont seem to rate is just hilarious.... What if Babel had scored it. Some people on here would have blown their load.
kop205 Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 lol, the lengths to which people would go to disregard a good moment by a player they dont seem to rate is just hilarious.... Pathetic isn't it? What is wrong with just saying 'Really good goal - but still don't think he'll make it here'.
Kahnee Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 For a start he will struggle to get a work permit, considering he is unlikly to make enough starts for his national team He'll be there for two years, by which time he qualifies for Greek citizenship and comes back not needing a permit. That's the whole point of sending him there
