alias75 Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 We see it by the fan comments on here, and of course in the media it seems you can't say anything unless its a negative. 1. We've had one of the best starts to a league season in the clubs history (i don't know the exact stats but in terms of PL starts its right up there) 2. However many games we've drawn that we should have won we're top of the league. 3. We've beaten Man Utd, Chelsea and got a point away to Arsenal 4. We've developed into a team thats very tough to beat even when we're playing poorly. 5. We've achieved all of this without the best striker in Europe for most of the season and a few players that are below par, so theres massive room for improvement all over the pitch. Yes we need to improve, yes we need to get better all over the field but lets not lose focus what this team has achieved so far this season. If we're doing so poorly what does that say about the teams around us who we're above. It seems the only positivity in the media is saved for Ferguson's mob as usual and sides like Villa because they have a few young english players in there even though they've spent plenty of money to buy most of them.
Jacks Jackie Jackson Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 Why let it bother you? Rise above it.
alias75 Posted December 21, 2008 Author Posted December 21, 2008 It doesn't bother me although its very difficult to avoid if you like watching football or like talking about football, im trying to point out some of the many positive about the team this season.
Swipe Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 Having a look on the forum just after a game - a game were SOME may feel we missed an opportunity - probably isn't the best if you're gonna be annoyed by negativity/frustration
CaptainXabi Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 Some people, me included, think it was a missed opportunity. There was no swearing or requests for Rafa's resignation, just an expression of disappointment at an opportunity missed. Which it was. It's like saying we should be happy with Athens because we would have taken an appearance in the final at the beginning of the campaign. Yes we would have taken the appearance in the finals at the beginning, but given our position in the final we can also rue the missed opportunity for No. 6. It's not that complicated and there's no need for the hand-wringing in response.
Farmer's Tan Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 i dont think its rocket science, todays game is a perfect example.some people feel that when arsenal went down to 10 men we should have took off a midfielder and bought on another striker and try to win the game others think that what we did was right and if we had made that sub (alittle earlier than 88mins) we could have been caught on the break and lost.i dont think there is too much wrong with that, the only real problem is when people blow it out of proportion.
Paddy 66 Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 Apparently if you feel positive about where we are you don't understand football or something, I agree some of the negativity on this site at times is stupid.
Frosty Jack Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 Apparently if you feel positive about where we are you don't understand football or something, I agree some of the negativity on this site at times is stupid. It's not on this site, it's everywhere, and it isn't just football.people go online to complain not to enthuse, unfortunately the media thinks that the web is a barometer of public opinion, when it is usually anything but.
Drexl Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 I dont really care about the media, but the disappointed fans puzzles me sometimes. Thought it was a fine result even though Arsenal was down to 10 men for half an hour.

Ramón Benítez Hernández Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 Halfway through the season and we've lost only two games. One was in the Carling Cup with the kids. Some people need to get a grip.
redjersey Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 Halfway through the season and we've lost only two games. One was in the Carling Cup with the kids. Some people need to get a grip. It's good not to lose and if yesterday's draw had come after a couple of wins, I'm sure it would have been seen more as the decent point that it obviously was. Unfortunately it was our 4th draw in 5 games. Winning 3 and losing 2 would have given us more points than winning 1 and drawing 4. Sorry, but I can't help feeling disappoined at our recent run of results.
Ramón Benítez Hernández Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 So we must expect to go to the likes of Arsenal's home ground and pick up three points? I'm not thrilled with our recent run of draws, but we haven't lost have we? Chelsea have also dropped points unexpectedly. So really, get a grip.
Ramón Benítez Hernández Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 Oh, and we're still top of the league.

I said that the point yesterday was obviously a good one. And no we haven't lost, but as I pointed out, we'd have a better tally of points from the last 5 games if we'd lost 2 and won 3. We're top of the league until tonight at least. I wish Chelsea were playing anywhere but Everton though.

The media are to a far greater extent a cause of rather than merely a reflection of the problem. They seem to have realised quite some time ago that moaning gets far more attention than just reporting.
Hassony Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 I thought arsenal still looked dangerous after they went to 10 men, Van persie can score from anywhere so we had to keep an eye on him, overall yesterday was an excellent performance (more so considering the manager wasn't on the bench), we controlled the majority of the game against a team that has managed to get maximum points from the united and chelsea this season I don't understand how a team can go to arsenal, totaly dominate the game without their best striker, and still pundits and fans dismiss the team as ginuine title challengers!
Cobs Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 So we must expect to go to the likes of Arsenal's home ground and pick up three points? not one person has said that not one
D.Boon Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 i thought we were poor second half. Arsenal looked very comfortable with 10 men.
Jarg Armani Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 good line that. i was reading some of the guardian.co.uk sport blog stuff yesterday and the comments from posters on that site make this place seem like a haven of sense and tranquility. they're f***ing mental. funnily enough i was going to post the same thing. have just read the blog comments about the match on there, absolutely crazy some of that stuff.
Stevie H Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 i thought we were poor second half. Arsenal looked very comfortable with 10 men.thought arsenal upped their game really well after the red card. we could and probably should have done better like, but credit to opponents where it's due.
DanielS Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 I'm avoiding discussing the game with anybody at the moment as I am trying to refrain from angry outbursts this week. I'm not getting crossed off Santa's list for no good reason and the raving loons that are about here and various other blog sites are enough to make a saint sin. In general though, anybody suggesting Lucas is crap, we play hoof ball, Adebayor was hard done to and we were lucky to get a point deserves a lump of f***ing coal in their stocking on Thursday.
Jarg Armani Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 who was it who got sent at anfield when they went on to win 2-1? van bronckhorst? they got similarly fired up that day. credit to them for holding on, but a stronger bench and rafa being there might have made the difference.
Hassony Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 thought arsenal upped their game really well after the red card. we could and probably should have done better like, but credit to opponents where it's due. I wonder if Rafa not being there on the sidelines hurt us after the red card, we have taken good advantage of teams going down to 10 men this season, maybe if Rafa was there he would have managed to change things straight away (not just through subtitutions)
