Ombudsam Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 The flack has died down so hopefully this won't be witch hunt but what is his actual skills set. What does he do?

Hassony Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 The flack has died down so hopefully this won't be witch hunt but what is his actual skills set. What does he do? did you watch the PSV game out of curiosity?
Ombudsam Posted December 19, 2008 Author Posted December 19, 2008 did you watch the PSV game out of curiosity? yeah and he played alright. Hence I can start this thread now as opposed to after the Fulham game.
Cobs Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 yeah and he played alright. Hence I can start this thread now as opposed to after the Fulham game. £5.5M wasted - should have kept Guthrie there, i said it
Hassony Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 yeah and he played alright. Hence I can start this thread now as opposed to after the Fulham game. it was easy to see his skills set in that game, whether he will prove to be a success in england or not might be a more suitable question and I don't think there is a lot to choose from between him, Danielson and Andreson
Hassony Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 £5.5M wasted - should have kept Guthrie there, i said it Guthrie better than lucas? are you serious?
Cobs Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 Guthrie better than lucas? are you serious? i don't see Lucas delivering anything that Guthrie's not for Newcastle he's cost £5.5m, hardly plays, don't see the point
lfc003 Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 it was easy to see his skills set in that game, whether he will prove to be a success in england or not might be a more suitable question and I don't think there is a lot to choose from between him, Danielson and Andreson You still haven't answered the question

As for his skills set re the PSV game, I saw Mascherano get a belter v Reading but I wouldn't say it was part of his repetoire.
Sion Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 £5.5M wasted - should have kept Guthriethere, i said it Should have sold Guthrie and not bought Lucas and got someone like Gokhan Inler or Ivan Rakitic He might get better, but i still can't see that ever being at a good enough level for us to command a first team place week in week out
Hassony Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 i don't see Lucas delivering anything that Guthrie's not for Newcastle he's cost £5.5m, hardly plays, don't see the point Guthrie isn't good enough for lus, he is a squad player with Newcastle, just as he was with bolton, hardly the first name on the sheet for either teams (who happen to find themselves in relegation fights), Lucas is a better player, as I said, he might never quite manage to do it in england, I am sure he will excel in a slower league
Hassony Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 When did we sign them? As for his skills set re the PSV game, I saw Mascherano get a belter v Reading but I wouldn't say it was part of his repetoire. don't be daft
Cobs Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 Guthrie isn't good enough for lus, he is a squad player with Newcastle, just as he was with bolton,as Lucas is for us (who happen to find themselves in relegation fights), which is hardly Guthrie's fault, i don't see them fairing any better had they Lucas at their disposal Lucas is a better player, as I said, he might never quite manage to do it in england, I am sure he will excel in a slower league that's the tricky thing - we need to put him in the shop window enough for someone to buy him and get our cash back doesn't look cut out for the pace and physicality of the PL at all
Rimbeux Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 i don't see Lucas delivering anything that Guthrie's not for Newcastle he's cost £5.5m, hardly plays, don't see the point Me neither. He's a nice player, decent feet, but dont think he'll even be as good as SMurphy was for us. A lot is said about his nationality and what he did in his homeland, but at the same time people should perhaps acknowledge that central midfield has not been a strong point for Brazil for a number of years. Vickery has made some interesting points about how it had/has become the domain of water carriers with many teams sitting two defensive cloggers in there and playing flying fullbacks, and that a player like Anderson who can do the kicking and also go forward becomes a revelation. I remember Dunga raving about Gerrard and Lampard when England played Brazil not so long ago, as the concept of what they do is so unusual in Brazillian football.
Hassony Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 that's the tricky thing - we need to put him in the shop window enough for someone to buy him and get our cash back doesn't look cut out for the pace and physicality of the PL at all I am sure his record and performance in Brazil and being a Brazilian international will mean that we should at least get what we paid for him in the summer 5.5m for a squad player isn't much considering what united and Chelsea spend on their squad players!
Ombudsam Posted December 19, 2008 Author Posted December 19, 2008 Me neither. He's a nice player, decent feet, but dont think he'll even be as good as SMurphy was for us. If Lucas was at the absolute top of his game what would he be doing on the pitch?
Cobs Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 I am sure his record and performance in Brazil and being a Brazilian international will mean that we should at least get what we paid for him in the summer so you rate him but want him sold ? 5.5m for a squad player isn't much considering what united and Chelsea spend on their squad players! that's neither here nor there
Cobs Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 If Lucas was at the absolute top of his game what would he be doing on the pitch?warming up
Rimbeux Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 If Lucas was at the absolute top of his game what would he be doing on the pitch? A decent impression of Danny Murphy or Jimmy Bullard imo. It's all decent but not outstanding
Cobs Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 A decent impression of Danny Murphy or Jimmy Bullard imo. It's all decent but not outstanding i'd trade him in for Bullard in a heartbeat
muleskinner Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 If Lucas was at the absolute top of his game what would he be doing on the pitch? His reputation was as a dynamic box to box goalscoring ballwinning midfielder. So far, his biggest problem seems to be not being Steven Gerrard.
Ombudsam Posted December 19, 2008 Author Posted December 19, 2008 His reputation was as a dynamic box to box goalscoring ballwinning midfielder. So far, his biggest problem seems to be not being Steven Gerrard. Even Steven Gerrard isn't "Steven Gerrard TM" a lot of the time so that's not the issue. I'm not panning the lad's ability I just don't knoe what it is. Rimbeux reckons Bullard but I don't really see it apart from the hair and unfortunate face (I am panning the lad's asthetic appeal).
Earl Hafler Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 i don't see Lucas delivering anything that Guthrie's not for Newcastle he's cost £5.5m, hardly plays, don't see the point Don't buy Lucas or Benayoun, spend £11m on one player ?
