Steven Gerrard fears that Ireland international Robbie Keane could very well leave Liverpool during the January transfer window, according to former Reds legend Mark Lawrenson.

Keane has had a tough time at Anfield since he joined the club from Tottenham over the summer - only scoring four goals - and was left on the bench for the 2-2 draw with Hull City over the weekend.

And Lawrenson, speaking on Today FM’s ‘The Last Word’, has revealed that Gerrard told him that he expects a move to materialise for the striker next month.

“I had a drink with Steve at a function on Saturday night,” Lawrenson explained. “He said they share the same agent and he thinks something’s going to happen with Robbie Keane in January.

“It sounds like he might be moved on.”

The Reds have reportedly only paid a quarter of the transfer fee due to Spurs for the player, which could facilitate a return to White Hart Lane in the near future, Lawrenson added.

However, Premier League rules forbid a player going back to a club within 12 months of being transferred or having their registration cancelled.

If he can't return to Spurs in the next few months I can't see anything happening.

If Keane was going to leave I can only see Spurs being his destination.

Heard lots of talk of Bale and O'Hara coming our way in return, Bale's decent but I'm not sure about O'Hara unless he's just there to boost the English contingent.

If Keane goes back to Spurs and we've got our £20m or close to it back, I say we put it towards nicking Tevez from under United's noses for around the £30m quoted.

He loves playing and will be sick of sitting on the bench, so promise him plenty of games in behind the best centre forward in the world and Javier can have a word.

Tevez is on a very short list of world class link forwards who would really improve us.

Arjan Robben (if he can keep fit) would be even better

tevez isn't really a link forward, as Mike says he's in the Kuyt envelope. wouldn't mind him though.

is exactly what we need. although ideally he'd be right-sided.

If this were to happen, then I'd hope we didn't sign someone else who'd expect to be first choice up front at a cost of moving Gerrard from supporting Torres, and therefore displacing one of Mascherano/Alonso. 4-2-3-1 is our best formation and shouldn't be messed with unless we need to change something tactically during a match.

We'd ideally need someone who can compete with Kuyt, Riera, Babel and Benayoun, and a back-up #9 forward who's likely to be more effective short term than N'gog (the Heskey deal would actually make sense in this respect). In terms of our first choice team, we're fine down the centre of the pitch (Masch, Alonso, Gerrard, Torres), we just need a player to add quality and consistancy down the flanks... as ever.

In my opinion Torres / Tevez would be the best strike force in the Premier League.

Tevez has everything that Benitez looks for in a striker and would be an incredible signing.

Trouble is...

1. Doubt we'd stump up the £30 million

2. Bet Utd do stump up the £30 million (although Tevez can't be happy playign second fiddle and also seeing Utd spend the money that could have signed him on another striker).

3. If he does become available expect big bids and huge wages from Real Madrid & Man City

arjen robben is an utter sh*thouse. he could, in theory, f*** right off.

In practise, he'd lie down holding his ankle before he got to the corner of the street saying "ooh I've fallen"

s***house or not, we need a player who can take on and beat a man and score goals. babel might do a job, but he's a s***house too apparently.

because tevez is argentinean everyone thinks he's some kind of fantasy player. he's not. he's very hardworking centre forward, with a decent eye for goal. i wouldn't mind him as i think he's a liverpool type of player. more perspiration than inspiration.
