Zoob Posted December 12, 2008 Posted December 12, 2008 I'm getting married next weekend (thankfully, the Arsenal game was moved from my wedding day to the Sunday...) The wedding and reception are at the same venue. We haven't even met our officiant yet, don't have any sort of raport with her and just thought she would do her job and then leave. She's not even paid attention to what we've told her (we told her we don't want any mention of god or anything religious, and then she asked us if we wanted her to say grace and a prayer before the meal...) Yesterday, we got an e-mail from her, asking if we had a table plan for her so that she would know where her and her husband will be sitting. This being my first time getting married I have no idea if it's usual to invite the officiant to the reception, (particularly when it's someone we don't even know), let alone whether it's acceptable for her to invite herself and her husband to our wedding. Don't want to tell she should leave as soon as she's done the ceremony, since it may inspire her to do a bad job, but at the same time, it's my wedding, and I don't really see why I should pay to have some total stranger and her husband there once the job (for which we are paying her) has been done. Obviously photographer and DJ are going to be there all night, so are being given food and drink (and they - unlike the officiant - also offered to meet us before the wedding without charging us some outrageous amount of money). I feel a bit like I'm caught in a real life episode of Curb your Enthusiasm. So for those of you who are married.... what's the score with officiants and food / reception... Maybe we should just call the whole wedding off and go to Vegas instead?
