Molby Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 well we know this: Hull don't shut up shop the way Stoke did so what does that mean? will we approach the game as before, on the basis that there will be more space or will we change things around? I liked the potential of the formation we played at Blackburn but I thought that either Babel should have used his pace to explore the acres of space available down the wing, or tucked in and got closer to Kuyt would like us to stick with this for Saturday but would also like much more overlapping from the full backs attacking full backs win you leagues
Molby Posted December 8, 2008 Author Posted December 8, 2008 Please stop every time I post that, we don't lose the game what's important is not whether or not it's the biggest PL game in 19 years but how we will approach it - a tactical thread for those that enjoy that side of things
Kvarme Ate My Food Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 Hull don't shut up shop the way Stoke did I think they wil.the template for getting a draw at Anfield is obvious.
Molby Posted December 8, 2008 Author Posted December 8, 2008 I think they wil.the template for getting a draw at Anfield is obvious. but some teams are better than others at it Hull seem to be fairly gung hoanyway, regardless, I'd be picking a team that assumed that Hull are here to defend and a 4-3-3 with Babel and Benayoun supporting Kuyt looks good for this
DanielS Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 I think they wil.the template for getting a draw at Anfield is obvious. They'll be better at it than Stoke and not so obvious in their counter-attack. They can play it on the ground and have a very decent striker in good form in King. Like has been mentioned by others elsewhere, I too am more nervous about Hull than Arsenal.
David Hodgson Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 I think they wil.the template for getting a draw at Anfield is obvious. It is. We have to find a way to get at those that 'park that bus'. For me, it's all about the flanks and how the full backs are used. Also, in these situations, your set-pieces have to be spot on.
sean Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 Thye'll get numbers behind the ball. All game. Until we score.

At Arsenal we can only really drop a point (by losing), but could gain two, if things go well. With Hull, it's a home banker for us and our rivals, so the pressure is on not to drop points.
Hassony Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 We should start the game in an ultra defensive mode for the first 10 minutes, that will confuse them and they will think they can attack us more, and thats when we should hit them

Ronnie Whelan Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 Thye'll get numbers behind the ball. All game. Until we score. I think so too. I cant see them coming to Anfield to take the points. They will keep it tight and fight for every ball.
Bigal Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 We should start the game in an ultra defensive mode for the first 10 minutes, that will confuse them and they will think they can attack us more, and thats when we should hit them lull them, I like this plan a lot

_00_deathscar Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 lull them, I like this plan a lot Better yet, score an own goal in these first 10 minutes.
David Hodgson Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 so what I expect to see is Babel, close to Kuyt, trying to cut in and do something - realises there's nothing on...swivels to his left and right on cue Insua or Dossena is charging past him demanding the ball want to see that all game on both sides I think we need more attacking players than that. I agree Kuyt needs a partner, but if that's Babel then we need another winger out there to dovetail properly with the full back. Or have I missed your point entirely ?

I mean Kuyt at the head of a front 3 - Babel and Benny just behind him Babel in particular has the pace to destroy any full back down the wing, but he also likes to cut in, as does Benny so if that's what they want to do then fine, but then we must have the full backs bombing on - turns in to a very attacking line up, with Gerrard and Xabi behind the front 3
Swan Red Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 They hardly tried to park the bus at Old Trafford I don't really see them trying to do it on Saturday
David Hodgson Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 They hardly tried to park the bus at Old Trafford I don't really see them trying to do it on Saturday I didn't watch that. Did you see it, or are you going by the scoreline ? Obviously the first goal can make all the difference.
DanielS Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 They hardly tried to park the bus at Old Trafford I don't really see them trying to do it on Saturday I think we are different to that corporate side in Salford though. If you come out and play against us we'll pick you off easier than a ripe plum in August. Them down the M62 do not like sides pushing at them because they're not as defensively well organised as we are and they thrive on battering at the bus-parking style sides because they have been doing it for so long.
Swan Red Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 Yeah I watched the game and they seemed to go out to play. I think their mindset is different from the other promoted clubs, they got off to a fantastic start and with the points they have already providing them with soikme safety feel as if they can go and win games rather than hang on for draws. They will come and play I feel
charlie clown Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 I'm honestly woried about this game - more than Chelsea, United etc. - and having seen how Stoke and Fulham have gone on they will fancy their chances even more.
DanielS Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 Is it just me or has there been more of a "get the ball down and play it" attitude in general from most clubs this year? Only Stoke are being out and out "old fashioned" in their approach and the money at stake does make it attractive to play to their obvious strengths.
