Fallout of the latest debacle at Real Madrid

Fantastic game tonight - typical Real Madrid - Sevilla eventually beat them 4-3, it was 3-1 Sevilla at half time, Real pulled it back to 3-3, then Arjen Robben, arguably their best player up to that point, got sent off for disputing the referee's failure to award what looked like a cast iron penalty - Sevilla broke against the ten men, and scored a late winner.

Fantastic entertainment! Almost as good as watching us against West Ham and Fulham at Anfield!!!!

Anyway.....

It looks like Schuster will definitely get the boot after this, so the Rafa to Real rumours are sure to re-surface, especially for as long as he has not signed a contract extension.

Also, a new manager may decide to offload a number of players he does not fancy in January - there are plenty squad / fringe players at Real which could strengthen us considerably in positions we are lacking quality - Drenthe for example.

Discuss!

I don't think Madrid will boot Schuster at the moment, he'll be left in charge for a few more months, unless they get bladdered by Barcelona next weekend, if that happens, he's a gonner.

Wait and see what happens next week.

I really liked the look of De La Red in the Euro's in the couple of games that he played, he is far better than Lucas anyway.

Well, Schuster didn't sign any of them anyway, and any new coach will be in the same boat, so it won't change anything regarding who stays or goes.

IMO the only way Rafa will even consider RM is if he will be assured of complete control of transfers, and that isn't the case there at the moment, and in fact isn't the case in any of the Spanish clubs.

Rafa has clearly developed a genuine love for Liverpool and the club, and I think that as long as his ambitions will be matched by the owners he will not hurry somewhere else. I am sure that Rafa also knows that he has unfinished business here, and that bringing back the Premiership Title to Liverpool will cement him a place of honour in the club's pantheon.

don't think rafa would be loved at madrid just as capello wasn't. he's too functional and pragmatic for them, not cavalier enough. they want their galactico attacking football cake and the eat it too results and titles. rafa wouldn't give them that.

Think I read somewhere that De La Red has had some pretty serious heart problems and his career is under threat.

He only played against Russia didn't he? and he has a problem with his heart that might force him to retire

Lucas was just as impressive in the Olympics by the way

True, but on the other hand, they'll know that he will win them trophies. If Barca will continue to impress, Calderon will become desparate to stop them.

Real Madrid are an ever present threat to us and there was a time a while back when it looked perilous

but the Montse factor saved the day and yes, Rafa and his whole family love the city and the club.....which is good

Sid Lowe on Football Weekly was saying just that

i meant it the other way round really, that they'd be big factors in rafa not wanting to take the job. he seems to like time to evolve clubs and he wouldn't get that at madrid. one season without winning the title and playing so-called pragmatic football and he'd be sacked.

When you need to explain the metaphor steve, it's not working

Yeah, they're talking about that on SSN now. They're saying he could take the 5pm training session. Spanish football is mental.

I do like that rule they have about not being able to take another club's manager during the season though. The FA should introduce that in England.

Montse won't let Rafa move. The kids are already fully fledged Scousers. Real Madrid has to be the least secure club to manage in the world. Even when you win trophies they still fire you.
