If we were to make one signing in January who would you go for?

I feel we lack a creative talent and this would be my priority to help turn those nil all home games, where inferior opposition come and park the bus, into 1-0 victories, with a flash of magic.

So, I would go after Arshavin.

I know he would be expensive, but, look at our likely departures in January - we will offload Pennant for 3-4 million, and there are suggestions that a Serie A outfit will take Dossena back for what we paid for him - that would generate 10-12 million, and if our wonderful owners could be persuaded to part with another 10 million, we could realistically fund a move for Arshavin.

He is not a Rafa type player, and I do not think it will happen - however, I would love it if it did.

Not sure who'd be available but i think we need someone to come in and give us some variety in attack. All our forwards are pretty small and similar types. Obviously Torres is decent in the air but we need a " plan B ". Is Huth available ?

I'd offload Pennant, Benayoun and Lucas with the latter having most worth to our squad. El Zhar should be promoted to fill the role Pennant and Benayoun share.

deffo owen and isnt sweinsteiger (sp) available on a free in the summer? would be worth having a look at him to give us better options in midfield

If Owen is really available for those low low prices, I think he'd be a sound investment.

It's ASDA price. And if so, that Asda be good value.

The thing is, would he have any feeling left for Liverpool? If so, I'd snap Newcastle's arm off but ideally, we want a man of Owen's ability allied to one with the drive, determination and work-rate of Dirk.

I'd have Owen back if the price was cheap, and he took a whacking pay cut, but our problem is less about missing chances than about having difficulty creating them, especially against teams sitting back and defending. In that respect, having Owen wouldn't help us.

And I think people need to be realistic about what we're gonna do in January. I think that Riera was paid for with money that we were intending on re-cooping (in part) by selling Pennant, so I don't think you can assume that any money we get for Pennant (would it even be more than 3 million?) would go towards buying another player.

Benayoun is very inconsistent, and is frustrating as hell in terms of taking too many touches and trying to take on one player too many, but we don't have anyone else in our squad who is good at dribbling and beating players, can score goals, and tries good threaded passes through compact defences. There are players a lot better than Benayoun, but again, they cost a lot more, and getting rid of Benayoun would only be worth it if we could afford to get someone in who we know to be better, and I can't think of any rafa type players who we could afford.

owen has scored something like 28 in 61 for newcastle. If he were to join us he would never play every game in any event but would present us with a terrific option for any type of game

i personally think its a no brainer - we should put certain feelings we may have due to the way he left us aside as we have the best opportunity to go for the league than we have had in many a year

I think we should sign Christiano Ronaldo because he's a very honest player and doesn't ever dive. Or act like a s***bag and I think his level-headed humilty would really help our clubs image. He's just such a lovely humble guy.

we dont want anyone to go collecting money for a kiddies charity we want someone who is going to win us the title mate.

Owen is the player that is available and cheap and given his record for newcastle (when he has played of course) its exactly what we need

I will have Owen assuming he would be "cheap" and could live with not being first choice

Plus I would get Andy's season ticket as well.

I would trade Keane for Bale and Lennon if that is an option, and pick up Owen and fat Ronny if we can.

Also, if Arshavin is available, I would pick him up in Jan to replace Benny and Pennant.

I do feel for Keane, but he just looks a little lost at Liverpool. I wish it would work out, but I can't see it. I had a feeling it wouldn't when we paid 20mil for a 12mil player.

I would give Dossena until the end of the season though.

Santa Cruz.

That's a good shout.

He's been rated here as a "Beta" Torres.

Also was rotated at Bayern with Makaay, Zickler, Elber and Pizarro for ages so knows the squad game.

True fact. Gareth Bale has played 17 games in the Premier League for Spurs.

And never been on the winning side.

And he's s**** at defending, and not brilliant at everything else. And Lennon is just all round not very good.

If we swap Keane for them two we're effectively paying £15m+ for them, as we could easily flog Keane for that I reckon.

I would lose all faith in Rafa.

Didn't someone say we couldn't afford to pay Heskeys wages? If true, that'd put Owen right out fo the picture too, (not to mention the fact Rafa' was quoted as saying he had no intrerest in him.. Owen that is).

I think theres a good possibility we wont get anyone in January tbh. If we can get better performances out of the players who are lacking in form and considering the injured players who will return, do we really need anyone?
