Maldini Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 Just started against Leeds Team for tonight Bouzanis Andre Wisdom (RB)Kennedy (CB)Daniel Ayala (CB)Buchtmann (LB) Amoo (RM)Irwin (CM)Pepper (CM)Kakiniclic (LM) Della Valle (FW)Ince (FW) Subs: Pourie, Chamberlain, Metcalf, Roberts, Ellison
Sion Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 That's a really strong team, should have a good run this season.
Gray - YPC Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 For those that know such things, who are the names to look out for? I'm guessing Ayala, Pepper, Irwin and Della Valle, as they're the 4 names I've heard touted as having a chance of becoming big players in the future?
Sion Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 Wisdom is supposed to be tidy IIRC, as are Ince and Kakiniclic. I'd say that's a stronger team than the one that won it.
ali Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 0-1 Tom Ince free kick Wisdom just booked Leeds just levelled 1-1
ali Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 Is it over yet? No Stevie Hunter's link just broken down destination unknown
ali Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 It is now, Bouzanis saves in stoppage time 1-2 FT

I'm guessing Ayala, Pepper, Irwin and Della Valle, as they're the 4 names I've heard touted as having a chance of becoming big players in the future? Ayala probably won't make it here. Wisdom looks a really good prospect, only 15 but built like Heskey, plays CB usually, very good on the ball. Buchtmann hasn't featured much this season because of injury but has impressed when he's played, very quick LB/LM. Pepper is class, exceptional football brain, really good passer of the ball and good movement, unfortunately he's only about 5'4. Both wingers have a lot of potential, Amoo is one of the quickest players I've ever seen, he's always a threat and a good finisher, he does rely on his pace a bit too much though. Kacanicklic is class, very clever winger, skillful and quick he creates a lot of goals. Delle Valle is a great finisher. Amoo on the right? Is he the new Kuyt? He's played on the right in all but his first 2 or 3 games since he signed.
Kahnee Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 (edited) He's played on the right in all but his first 2 or 3 games since he signed. Tsk tsk, being treated like a dog at such a young age Edited December 3, 2008 by Kahnee
richwilks Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 I can't understand why Dalla Valle hasn't progressed to the reserve team. I hear so many good reports about him and he seems to perform extremely well for the youth teams. He should be moving up a level to the reserves and getting used to playing against better and more physical defenders to prepare him for the first team. Nemeth should then be moved on to the first team. At 17 years old Fowler and Owen were in the first team, Dalla Valle seems to be being held back.

He only turned 17 in September so hes still very young but physically he looks like he'll be able to handle the step up. The problem is at the moment we have too many young players, so if he gets promoted to the reserves it means others a little older will be missing out. The obvious solution is to get rid of players like Brouwer and a few others that clearly aren't good enough and give those that do have potential a chance at a better level. From everything ive read though hes a player very highly regarded by Rafa and it wouldn't surprise me if hes at Melwood from next season and a regular in the reserves next season as a few are either loaned out or moved on. Also agree its time for Nemeth to be part of the first 17 players especially with Torres out.
Sion Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 I can't understand why Dalla Valle hasn't progressed to the reserve team. There's no room because of this carthorse

He's a fantastic finisher and has great movement in and around the box but he still has to improve his general play. He often drfits out of games. Hopefully we'll enter two reserve teams next season so the players like Delle Valle, Pepper, Eccleston and Amoo who deserve reserve football get more of a chance.
Hassony Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 Hopefully we'll enter two reserve teams next season so the players like Delle Valle, Pepper, Eccleston and Amoo who deserve reserve football get more of a chance. can we do that?
Maldini Posted December 3, 2008 Author Posted December 3, 2008 can we do that? Yeah Man City do it, one in the reserve league we're in now and one in the old Pontins/Central league
alias75 Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 We either need to do what City do and have 2 reserve teams or get rid of 4 or 5 players from the reserves, because by having too many players it does stop players like Dalla Valle testing themselves at a higher level because there are already too many players slightly older above him. Some of the signings we've made lately really do bemuse me, people like Flora, N'Gog really are no better than we already have in the reserves and they are stunting the development of others that have been here longer. Im sure next season or maybe even in January well see a few of the current reserves out on loan as happened with people like Hobbs, Anderson, Hamill, Antwi from the last crop. The ones that do well could come back but with that league experience you can at least expect to get fees for the ones that don't make it which will be the vast majority and i guess that helps pay for the academy and bringing in the quantity of players we do.

We seem to have a raft of average players and then we have players who are in the 16-18 age bracket who are playing youth football. Players like Amoo, Eccleston, Pepper, Dalla Valle etc should be moving on up and players like Brouwer shipping out. There are a lot of players who won't make it at premier level. Antwi, Hobbs, even Hammill I suspect will be out of his depth if he gets a first team chance. Players like Insua, El Zhar, Nemeth and Darby should be moving up and the chaff shipped out. In my opinion El Zhar is as good as Benayoun/Pennant, Nemeth better than Ngog/Flora, Darby as good as Degen and Insua certainly should be challenging for that left back spot.
