Gunga Din Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 Are people actually enjoying watching us play at the minute? At the match, i hear nothing but people whinging, people on edge, shouting at the players for any misplaced pass, booing substitutions, booing at the end. Is watching us at the minute a plesent experience, or is it a bad 90 minute experience. Do people who go enjoy the football we play, the atmosphere at the match? Do people who watch on tv enjoy watching us at home or in the pub? It seems weird starting a thread like this, top of the league after 15 games, a lot of the harder away games out of the way, we have only lost 5 league games in 18 months, but its been a long time, IMO anyway, that matchgoing fans have been as impatient with the team and with other fans. whats the general opinion on this? why is this happening? even the atmosphere at European games is s****.
Bigal Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 (edited) good question, I always enjoy our games to be honest. me dad though, take Marseille away last year as an example, he was more nervous when we were 2-0 up than when it was 0-0, he is just a nervous wreck from start to finish. I hate watching us anywhere other than the game though. Edited December 2, 2008 by Bigal
Cobs Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 seems to me people are expecting a non-stop winning procession to the title and can't handle the inevitable dropped points or poor play from individuals/the team that happen through the course of any season oh and i always enjoy watching us, even when i don't.
AntM Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 I thought yesterday was a decent enough game... probably a bit too prettily played. Frustrated at the result but it was an enjoyable game of football... two decent teams, two different agendas, two different sets of tactics...

I always enjoy watching us, we might not play the best football but its Liverpool so I love it. I prefer going to watch us away from home now though, just because of the whole day and not surrounded by as many bellends (though theres still plenty). The atmosphere in England is horrendous though, and we seem just about the only ones who can turn it on at all for big CL games etc. I do get a bit gutted watching say Argentine games where the atmosphere is absolutely crazy and everyone there just looks like they're enjoying themselves, going mad, we'll never have anything like that here again though with to many jobsworth bizzies, stewards, seating etc etc
matty Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 I enjoy it in a certain way, but not in others. Last night was frustrating. Frustration is different from enjoyment.
stressederic Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 I didn't see the game yesterday, but I always enjoy watching us. I like the anticipation in the build up and enjoy watching the matches (that can wear off if we get thrashed obviously). Even when the game itself isn't great there's usually something of interest I can find within it, but I think that's the same with most fans. I'm very rarely bored watching one of our matches as I get really into it. I can only properly watch us either in the ground (rare) or at home. I can't concentrate on the game in the pub and I usually end up wanting to kill all the people around me.
yellow jumper Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 at the moment is seems like a case of fans (and probably players) wanting it too much, and massive impatience/knee-jerking as a result. it's a shame because if we could find a way of enjoying where we are, regardless of a few sketchy performances, it might actually strengthen our position. i don't think i can remember a season under rafa where we've played our best stuff consistently during the first half of the season.

Saturday is gonna be a mad un!!!
Coyler Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 Watched it on telly last night and enjoyed it because of what was at stake and because I was convinced the goal was coming; only became frustrated towards the very end.
CarraLegend Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 I have come to that school of thought also. Saturday is gonna be a mad un!!! Defo got to enjoy this one, might be a while before we go there again with the job Ince is doing.
Falconhoof Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 I don't enjoy watching as much as I used to. I don't know if thats just me or whether its all of the things that have crept into football over the last 15 years or so.
Bigal Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 Defo got to enjoy this one, might be a while before we go there again with the job Ince is doing. hope they put as much of a fight as they did against chelsea
TheLa Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 I enjoy watching us, even if we're not playing the best footy in the world at the minute. What does my head in more than some of the teams piss poor performances, is the piss poor fans. There seems to be a "I want it now" attitude at the match. This is the arl "Sky Generation" argument, people demand to be entertained. Winning isn't enough, being top of the league isn't enough, they want everything instantly. If we're not winning they get on the teams back, he's s***, he's a c***, he should f*** off. If we are winning then they moan at the performance. I go the match expecting us not to lose, I don't always expect us to win but I can't see many teams beating us, and not many teams look capable of beating us. There is alot of room for improvement this season but I'd rather us improve while we're top of the league, rather than improving while we're in fifth place and then not improving enough to make a real challenge, just enough to finish fourth.
Andy @ Allerton Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 I always enjoy going to the match. It's great.
Coyler Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 Even only watching on television I think I could look at Alonso striking the ball and getting into space all day long, which helps.
RedHarvest Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 Watched it on TV - enjoyed watching some of Xabis space making touches, Hyypias cool defending and corner attempts, Carras late high forays into the oppo half, Kuyts workrate as usual...didnt enjoy the inevitability of not scoring (if SG wasnt at the races who was going to score? Only Hyypia from a corner and it agonisingly didnt happen), the lack of real inspirational creativity in our team and Keanes continuing underperforming. You have to take the philosophical view though..Rafa's not going to change his ways in terms of subs and systems so you're either with him - and we're top of the league - or you're not.
Falconhoof Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 I always enjoy going to the match. It's great. Is this a different football ?Make your feckin mind up
Swipe Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 We're not as impressive going forward as United are yet, but we play far better football (most of the time) that we get credit for. I enjoy watching us play, but i enjoy watching us win more!
Maldini Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 I used to play football with a guy who freaked out whenever we were in a tight match. If we went one up with ten minutes left he'd just start screaming panicky nonsense at everyone (usually about getting "stuck in"). Our crowd reminds me of him at the moment. I'm honestly more worried about the mindset of our fans than the performance of our team at the moment. Our form can and will improve, but I don't know if the inclination to panic can change.
Andy @ Allerton Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 Is this a different football ?Make your feckin mind up See - I don't really class all the Sky cobblers and the like as being part of football. The bit I like to concentrate on is actually going to the match and seeing the team play. Doesn't mean I'm happy the way the game is going and I'm going to gib the 'Champions' League next season - When I realised when 1-0 down to Atheltico at home we could have lost 75-0 and still qualified for the next round - that's when you think "This competition is stupid" And it's not the European Cups fault - it's these idiots changing all the rules to make more money. Well - it's slowly changing - 5 years ago - the 25 or so ST holders around me ALL went to the CL games. A couple of years ago? About 10 of then. Last season? About 5.. This season there is me and one other lad that are ST holders.

MFletcher Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 I always enjoy watching us. What annoyed me was the obvious discontent towards the end. The ball is passed to Xabi who is being closed down quite quickly by Bellamy. He passes it to Carra to keep possession, but the crowd react immediately to the ball going backwards and start heckling. What's he supposed to do exactly?
The Hitman Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 I don't "enjoy" our games,I look forward to them, love it when they're on-but by and large, they make me a nervous, miserable wreck. I've watched games before wanting the ref to blow the full time whistle after 15 minutes, just so we'd get 3 points.I don't enjoy the game itself,I enjoy/or am miserable during the period after the game's finished.
Maldini Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 Meaningless nonsense. Care to elaborate? Are you suggesting that the players aren't affected by the panic in the stands?
