VEGARD HEGGEM'S MESSAGE TO THE FANS

Liverpoolfc.tv 01 December 2008

Vegard Heggem would like to assure Liverpool supporters around the world that he did not give an interview to the Sun newspaper.

The former Reds defender was disappointed to see quotes attributed to him in the tabloid recently and immediately contacted the club's official website to set the record straight.

"It's been brought to my attention that the Sun has printed a story with quotes from me," he said.

"I want to state that I am aware of the history between the Sun Newspaper and Liverpool FC, and I would never give an interview to this newspaper.

"I gave an interview to a journalist from the Swedish newspaper "Dagens nyheter" on Wednesday where I commented on Steven Gerrard, and the quotes are taken from this interview.

"I am very sad that this has happened, and I am delighted .tv has assisted me in getting a message out to the fans, that an interview with the Sun never took place."

It's a shame he succumbed to the Curse Of The Talented Right Back that claimed many of our best defenders over the past 15 years or so.

He was great to watch bombing forwards.

Rob Jones

Vegard Heggem

Markus Babbel

Josemi

All claimed by this b*stard curse of ours, through injury or,in Josemi's case, lack of talent.

I was a corporate guest (club tie and all) at Boro the day he scored that mazy wonder goal, the only man jumping up and down shouting 'get the f*ck in' in that section of the ground I believe. ;)

Can I c&p the article from goal.com because it's quite an entertaining article. It's just that I think it uses the translations from the rag, so I'm hesitant to post it.

Top man, good for him for making a point of it.

Fantastic right back he was as well, incredibly skilllful and great going forward. Not many full backs actually excite you when they get the ball but he was one of them.

Such a shame about his injuries so young, I always felt he could have converted into a top class right winger.

Yeah, I think we all did, but every time he put in a great attacking performance at RB he would play next game at RM and look ordinary.

Good lad for setting the record straight on this.
