CarraLegend Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 (edited) Hammy again. f***! Fernando Torres and Fabio Aurelio both face short spells on the sidelines after picking up injuries against Marseille on Wednesday night. Both players underwent scans at Melwood earlier today after picking up hamstring and calf strains respectively during the 1-0 Champions League victory. A club spokesman confirmed: "Fernando has a strain in his right hamstring and will be out of action for between two and three weeks. "Fabio has a calf strain in his left leg and will be out for two weeks." http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/drilldown/N...081127-1921.htm Edited November 27, 2008 by CarraLegend
swano Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 F***. No way we can take a chance and rush him back. Don't want this to be a long term problem. Luckily it hasn't completely torn yet. Give him until the Christmas games just to be sure.
Sion Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 He should only miss two PL games. But the bigger issue getting up and running for the arsenal game, looks like by then he'll just be starting off on his run of acclimitising games.
Benzo-13 Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 Ah balls.. Promote Insua and get Babel up with Keane on Monday. I'd give Masch a rest. Looks f***ed.
ali Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 Marca and AS both had this story by lunchtime on their sites, yet we wait until 19:21 for it to appear on .tv

Talking of promoting youngsters, hopefully this could give Rafa a reason to have Nemeth on the bench vs West Ham. He's 20 in a few weeks, he needs to be given a chance.

Gunga Din Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 Keane really needs to get his game together. or Kuyt up front with babel on the right. we have options, but we need players to stand up and be counted
Paisley Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 Are we mis-handling his injury? this is the third time he's been out with a hamstring injury this season, or is it just the tricky nature of these injuries? Feck. Why couldn't this be happening to Ronaldo instead?
R A Softlad Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 Keane really needs to get his game together. or Kuyt up front with babel on the right. we have options, but we need players to stand up and be counted Is correct.
Tommy Cockles Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 Keane really needs to get his game together. or Kuyt up front with babel on the right. we have options, but we need players to stand up and be counted Is right.
Oli Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 As bad news as it is I wouldn't have been too concerned if we didn't look to be collectively stuttering somewhat. That said we clearly have the personnel to cope in this situation as evidenced earlier in the season. A lot of players need to up their game now.
Benzo-13 Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 Keane really needs to get his game together. or Kuyt up front with babel on the right. we have options, but we need players to stand up and be counted Too right.. Babel would wanna step up now and start showing the talent we all know he has. Do agree with having Nemeth on the bench. He's a lot more the finished article than N'Gog.
Duncan Disorderly Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 Feck. Why couldn't this be happening to Ronaldo instead? Is right!
Coyler Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 (edited) I have a funny feeling Keane might react well to this. Must have looked like he wasn't going to get much of a look-in for the foreseeables with his finishing not doing much to justify his place, especially given his lack of understanding with Torres. Depends on the Gunga Din caveat, of course, but it could be extremely focusing for him. Edited November 27, 2008 by Coyler
Paddy 66 Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 Too right.. Babel would wanna step up now and start showing the talent we all know he has. Do agree with having Nemeth on the bench. He's a lot more the finished article than N'Gog.If he'd played a few games I would agree but he only got a few minutes the other night for the reserves unfortunately I think this has come a few games too soon.
Oli Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 Are we mis-handling his injury? this is the third time he's been out with a hamstring injury this season, or is it just the tricky nature of these injuries? I would guess probably the former due to the latter. It's definitely a very difficult injury to manage. The majority of recurrences come about due to inadequate rehabilitation and perhaps more siginficantly a rehabilitation that is simply too rapid. I don't think it's difficult to imagine that in a game where the stakes are as high as they are in top level football that injured players are brought back into action before they are 100% injury free. That's not to say they are playing with pain. If you decrease the stride length on your injured leg (subconciously), you would protect the hamstring at the expense of absolute speed but if you lapse out of this, the potential for reinjury is there.
Suth Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 He was clearly not fit last night and maybe should of been withdrawn earlier. We have lots of options to play upfront, in this order:Keane, Kuyt, Babel, Ngog, Nemeth, Voronin (recalled).
jfogarty Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 (edited) Get Owen in for peanuts, then the two of them can rotate their hamstrings. Edited November 27, 2008 by jfogarty
Maldini Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 Nemeth only started training last Monday, he's nowhere near fit.
psl Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 Get Owen in for peanuts, then the two of them can rotate their hamstrings. We really should.
