Right, in the spirit of new things on the new forum – and because I’ve got a little time…

I have randomly selected 8 Liverpool teams from circa the late 70’s to the present day but the majority is from the mid 80’s onwards.

Each of the teams (named for ease of use as Team 1 through to Team 8) are laid out to play 4-4-2 with players in the natural position on the whole but subject to some artistic licence occasionally. Some favourites didn’t make it and some less favoured did!

The teams have been drawn into 4 quarter finals with the winner going forward to 2 semi finals – to be drawn – and then final to see which team you select as our best combined team (based on these choices), from the eras shown.

Below, Team 2 plays Team 4. Your job is to select a winner (2 or 4) saying why if you wish and the one with the most votes will go into the semi draw. I’ll keep this match open for 24 hours (5pm uk tomorrow) before presenting the next match and so on.

The draw for the quarters is 2x4, 1x5, 3x8, 7x6. This means nothing to you as you cannot see all the teams but I don’t want any accusations of rigging!!

Match 1;

Team 2 (at home)

Reina

Josemi-Hysen-Hughes-Traore

Johnston-Molby-Lucas-Reira

Aldrige Crouch

Team 4

James

Finnan-Lawrenson-Piechnik-Aurelio

Walters-Marsh-Mascherano-Smicer

Torres Morientes

Jesus christ!!

I guess i'll go for Team 2's home advantage to carry them through

Not sure about that Gibo. Team 4 are made of steel down the left.

Neither side would make it out for the second half, Hughes would be tw*tting Traore and Walters would be left in a battered heap in the showers.

Who is managing these sides?

5-3 to team 2.

I'd go for Team 4, so long as someone steals James' Playstation beforehand. Nothing gets past Masch and Lawrenson, Finnan and Aurelio supply Torres, Smicer drops into the hole and Morientes watches it all passing him by ...

Balls.

Johnston and Riera would get in a total of 94 crosses which Aldridge would knock in five of, after shoving Crouch out the way.

Lawro would have Togsy in his pocket. Moro would be shackled by big torben

Team 2 wins, 4-1

That may not help them though, seeing as though they are on the same team.

That's throw a spanner in my otherwise flawless calculation

Aldo would be made up to be up front with Crouch given his obsession with the big man.

I intend to think on this wonderful game.

My view is that I can't bet against Big Jan

Because he might find out and kill me.

Thank you. Thought I'd completely lost the plot of football there for a minute

Team 4 with a score of 4-3 - just to make it more interesting - with two hat-tricks apiece one for Aldo the other for the Tog, with Smicer getting the winner. In extra time.

Hello Arsene.

It'll be a score draw in normal time. 2-2. Team 4 to win in extra time.
