Guest Ant Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 It's been on my mind for a while now, but Babel is getting on my t***. He's hot and cold, sometimes he looks like the player always wanted, other times he looks like Nunez. He's been here for more than a season now, and as great as his impact has been off the bench, I wouldn't put him down as a deffo starter for the club. As mentioned in the other thread, he doesn't have a defined role, and he looked totally isolated last night. We have better LM and RM's than Babel and part of me believes if he doesn't make it as a striker he never will make it for Liverpool. Perhaps the biggest concern for me is that he is so indecisive, he doesn't know what the hell he is doing half the time. I really don't think he'll make it for us, which is a shame because he has the talent.
Nate. Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 The one thing worse than watching a game like that last night is coming here and reading threads like this all f***ing day.
carrafan Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 Just when Dee was getting round to liking him ..
honourablegeorge Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 Frustrating as hell last night - kept beating his man out wide, then not crossing, and trying to run into a crowd of defenders instead. Would have been much happier to see him played as a striker, as Rafa suggested he would be. El Zhar looked a more mature player. That said, Babel has some brilliance in his locker.
yellow jumper Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 (edited) i was at the game and babel looked one of the better players on the pitch. he might have over done it at times, but he looked bothered both going forward and defending. took responsibility. Falconhoof Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 He has talent, it would be daft to dismiss that and assume he won't make it. He needs to improve but he'll get more chances in a better overall team than last nights and i'm sure he'll do better. I'd be looking at Lucas and asking questions before Babel tbh.

Guest Ant Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 (edited) I just think if he is as good as we believe and anticpate he is he would have had a defined role by now. Edited November 13, 2008 by Ant

Nate. Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 Babel was being marked by 3 men almost every time he got the ball. Exactly. I suspect Spurs had looked at the side and picked him out as one of the potential dangers, certainly compared to the rest. Thus gave him more attention during the game, certainly after he started quite well too.
muleskinner Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 I just think if he is as good as we believe and anticpate he is he would have had a defined role by now. You posted this in the match thread, the scouting thread and now start a new thread to say, essentially, the same thing.
Bailo Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 Agree with Bailo, Lucas played well yesterday considering he had Plassis as his partnerI don't think the point can be made enough that if Arsenal, Utd or Chelsea put out the teams they played in this round of the cup, they'd get slaughtered more often than not. That isn't an indictment of the respective qualities of the players in those teams, as they (hopefully for each club concerned) will never have to play as a full XI. They should be there to fill in gaps when one, two, three injuries are collected. Babel, Yossi, El Zhar, Lucas, Plessis, Insua, Pennant can all fill in and do a job. But you wouldn't want a team made up purely of them.

Chili Palmer Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 Babel has all the qualities to be a top player for us, he'll be fine.

Not saying he wasn't trying, just that his decision making is frustrating - he had several opportunities to get a cross in, but chose blind alleys instead. I think he's better suited up front, where he can be more instinctive.

adiman Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 Very good player for us. I don't understand the abuse he gets here. He was a key figure in gthe 4-2-3-1 formation that worked so well last season and it looks like he is being groomed for a more forward position. As for last night, in the first half the only time we looked like threatening was when he had the ball . Usually had three players around him last night and no support.
beejay Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 Babel was one of the very few last night who looked like he was arsed. Class player surrounded by statues & donkeys
