of course yes i wanna see us do well...

Still no doubt we will see a side consisting of our back up squadies...and it just doesnt feel me with the same excitement as watching Arsenals youngsters put on another stunning display tonight..

they really were superb and you have to applaud Arsene Wenger and the coaching staff......arron Ramsey in particular looks a real talent as does the mexcian youngster up front(cant remember his name)...

Id love us to do the same thing.....

Looks nice but til they step into the league or CL and do it, then it's kinda like an exhibition match...

Not saying it can't happen but the goods are to be produced elsewhere for it to really matter.

Still kind of galls me that we couldn't find £5m to spend on such an obvious talent. Our American overlords thought Gareth Barry was too old to borrow spend £18m on so I'm guessing Ramsey was too young to justify the money?

If you were his age (and didn't support Liverpool - or maybe even if you did) - which club would you join - Arsenal or Liverpool ?

They may very well be the saviours of football. Bow down and worship at their feet.

Walcott supported Liverpool so that argument doesn't always hold up. If we'd made him feel like we wanted him the most then I'm sure we could have got him - whether the owners would have stumped up the cash is another matter. Arsenal have got a good reputation for their youth set-up but they're also getting a reputation for being perpetual nearly men, and Liverpool have a great manager and you'd feel are more likely to win things.

as did Keane ............ what argument?

You don't think where he feels his career would be best served would come into the equation?

Arsenal's manager has a fair reputation too, he might even have won a title or two in his time

Fact of the matter is if you were a young player today and had the pick of the big 4 to go to, putting who you support to one side, Arsenal seem like the club where you've the most likelihood of been given a chance of breaking through

Was Gerrard the last product of our youth academy to become a 1st team regular?

Terry at Chelsea?

God only knows at Utd - O'Shea? Brown?

Ramsey, Walcott and plenty of others at Arsenal have nothing to do with their academy - they were bought in, just like Nemeth, Pacheco, Galacsy et al. That myth needs busting. How many kids actually do break through at Arsenal? Not many genuine ones.

I know everybody on here hates going against the norm, but they have a few quality players and fair play to Arsenal for lowering the ticket prices and playing some excellent football to boot.

Ramsey looks a good player, but maybe if arsenal had added the £5m they paid for him to the offer they made for Xabi, they would have had a better chance of winning the premiership this season

To be fair, they are all very athletic and have good to very good technical ability and play football in an eye catching way. Having seen some of their games over the years (they do seem to get a lot of CC coverage), almost every team they have played have semed intimidated by the reputation of 'the youth team' and as such seem to have lost the game before it has begun.

It needs to be remembered that these players are exposed to this type of game 2-3 times per season with three week gaps between games and as such it hard to assess how they might perform on a continuous cycle. Also, they tend not to win the youth cup nor their own reserve league that often.

begs the question is the academy/reserves there to win the Youth Cup/Reserve League or to produce 1st team players ?

I think they play 12 year olds in the youth cup ;)

Either way, they smashed an experienced Wigan side to pieces last night. Very, very impressive.

Apart from good speed amongst the whole team, they are not better players than everyone else, they just have the freedom to play football without fear of being shouted at if it goes wrong.

Fair play to Wenger.

Good point. Rafa thinks it's the latter primarily, dosn't he?

f***ing bored of Arsenal now. They're either the most amazing exciting future of football and the club we should all adore, or they're a busted flush who need half a dozen new players. If they were based in Hartlepool the media wouldn't give them half the attention they get.
