matty Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 This man is what we've been lacking for 20 years. A defender who can really play, who brings the ball out of defence, causes havoc, creates opportunities. I think he'll be the best defender in Europe within three years. There, I said it. And he's still, imo recovering full fitness after the year out. Eventually, he and Skrtel could be the dream defensive partnership, the hard man and the artist, the rock and the sculptor, yin and yang, Peters and Lee.

Bailo Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 I think we've missed Skrtel actually. I feel a little less secure without him around. It might be that Dan is still getting back into the swing of things, and I love his forward runs, but Skrtel is becoming a personal favourite.
Sir_Bob_Paisley Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 Reminds me of the way Alan Hansen would do it if we were losing. I could never understand why Hansen wouldn't do it when it was 0 - 0.

Aye - it was like that against Wigan Go a goal down.. Agger starts charging forward... Level. Stops. Go another goal down... repeat Annoying actually because it was so effective.
Knox_Harrington Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 It's so difficult to deal with because no one is assigned to deal with it once he's past the centre forward. Whoever goes to leaves a marked man.

Whoever goes to leaves a marked man. Plus I think that there is a perceived wisdom that says, pick up Alonso with an off the front man type (as Wigan did with Valencia) and sit deep and we struggle to get any pattern going Agger doing that f***s that plan up, plus it creates space for the further forward types, particularly the off the front man and the wide players Edited November 6, 2008 by sutty

Fact is that the intelligence of the players and managers we tend to come up against isn't all that great and just acting out of the ordinary can throw them. I would also like to see it when the scores are level because it asks constant questions of the opposition and means they can't cope.

CHARGE!
Murphman Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 I hope that was tongue in cheek about Peters and Lee.... You've not met Matty then? He's a massive fan, was absolutely gutted when Lenny passed away.

Just push up, watch Alonso sit, watch the WBA players get confused and Mowbray (who comes across like he knows a thing or two) get frustrated.

Knox_Harrington Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 Put in a great ball on Tuesday nightWe haven't got the same talented ball carriers as our rivals and I really think unlikely stuff like this is how we are going to break teams down at home. Unexpected movement. People get frustrated with Arbeloa not hitting the byline but I think he's under instruction to look to cut inside and run the diagonal between players and look for a ball or a shot from there. Not the sort of thing you normally see a right back do.

Bigal Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 Again that tends to happen when we are getting beat On Saturday I'd have Agger doing that from minute one. CHARGE! from the kick off, give it agger, get mascherano as a blocker, CHARGE!!!!
Molby Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 if we are going to win the league, other than the luck we need with injuries, I can't think of anything more likely to give us an unexpected edge than Agger carrying the ball I'm happy to see him surge forwards and try to swap passes until he's ready to shoot or cross tbh how many goals will we concede as a consequence if he loses possession or is out of position and the move falters? my spread says between 0 and 1 how many extra will we score? 10 - 12 I reckon
matty Posted November 6, 2008 Author Posted November 6, 2008 Derek and Clive......yer ******f*** you, you f***ing c***.

Ta.
Farmer's Tan Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 i agree,he definitely will be the top or one of a very select band of footballing center halves in europe who are actually very good at defending and playing ball atm though he seems a little too casual.
Molby Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 Can I sell at 100 a goal on the scored spread please? Ta. no 'cos you'll end up owing me thousands but you can have a fantasy bet - that's fun too, and nobody gets hurt!
Guest PaulMcC Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 I think we've looked worse defensive with him than we have with with Skrtel.
lfc003 Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 I think we've looked worse defensive with him than we have with with Skrtel. I agree
Earl Hafler Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 I think we've looked worse defensive with him than we have with with Skrtel. Partly down to our left fullback not having settled in and Carra looking like he's had one too many last ditch tackles.
